MOON PHASE
First Quarter
Fished the Mink Friday and Saturday for 11 hrs total. Was in a kayak with my friend who is new to smallmouth fishing. I caught 12 fish total, all smallies, did lose a little walleye next to the boat. We caught 11 smallie over 17 inches between the two of us. Very few fish under 14 inches. Slow presentations in the deepest water worked best

Wow ... what an afternoon on the water with the smallies. We had 5 of us in kayaks and slammed the smallies. Cranks, crawlers and plastics all worked. Caught some 8" ones but caught more 17" than 8". And caught some to about 19" and close to 5 pounds.

Fished northern door county in the rain and cold on the weekend of october 13th & 14th. Fished egg harbor and explored the nature conservancy property on the mink river. Salmon were jumping all around in the harbor but would not bite anything...spawn sacs, crank baits, spoons, bucktails... nothing. waded the mink river and what a cool area, even in the crap weather. no fish there but i will be back in the spring with a kayak Cool So there are fish there, getting them to bite is another story.

My mistake for not seeing your asking about "this" weekend. Usually, when someone talks Door County and "spawning", they are talking bass and in the spring.

As I noted, I don't know the exact date, but "believe" that it is catch and release smallies until a certain date in June. I'm sure there are northerns in that estuary spawning even earlier and have no idea if they are off limits also.

I'm actually going to be in Baileys Harbor over the weekend and am also leaving the kayaks and Crestliner at home with the cold temps and most likely wind. Last year this same time was low 70's. Ah, Wisconsin. It will have to be hiking rather than fishing.

received this in my inbox for my apparent innappropriate post on the bailey's harbor thread.

"You need to stay away from the Mink River during the spawn. It does not need the pressure. Also, you cannot fish it until June sometime. SR"

From the majority of the research I have done it is completely within my rights as a state conservation patron to fish here oct. 12-14th; unless there are some special regulations pertaining to the Mink River State Natural Area but for the life of me I cannot find any. Could someone clarify this??? If this is true i have no problems following regulations and fishing elsewhere but I am not letting joe blow make up rules to force me out. Its everyones water.....

I know this is a stupid post but i would rather play it safe than sorry.

Fished for bass got 5 on yellow/black spinner. Good size and healthy. Noticed some people catching perch. When does the perch come and leave from the bay? And can I catch it inshore? thanks

Fished Rowley's Bay and the Mink River Area on July 4th and 5th. SM Bass were not plentiful in the Bay on the days I fished, but the Bass that were caught were of very good size 18-20" all. The wind that was present was out of the North, in the past I have done much better when the wind has been out of the South blowing into shore in the Bay.

I had a trailer problem that I had to fix when I was there and left my boat tied to one of the DNR docks that they have for about 10-15 minutes while I was back working on my trailer. I had my cell phone (Blackberry) and my GPS stolen off of my boat during that time. I am sure it was some "nonlocals" that were there on the 4th. Kind of put a damper on the rest of the week, but I tried not to let it bother me.

First ,I'd like to thank previous posters on the restricted bass fishing sign near the mouth of the river. We kept no bass because of info from the guide we bought the license from who told us to release any we caught. Sat.,AM;We drifted in our wind blown canoe from the wider part upstream back past the bass signs and caught numerous small perch and three, too small bass. As we got close to the end of the drift a "seisch" sent current sweeping up into the estuary stirring up the weeds and bottom and we caught a couple of bigger perch which we kept to eat as a meager but tasty lunch. Crawlers and leeches caught more fish but the jig and twister tail suckered the bigger ones. I'd heard the estuary was nice and the rumors were true.
