For burbot at night. That's about it. It can sometimes work whole or cut under a bobber can work with a chop for spring coho when they arrive or for browns.
Milwaukee River Under Hoan Bridge
I get down here once or twice a year. Usually throw some spoons or soak some spawn. I've never seen it, but anybody ever use cut bait here for anything? If so any luck with it? I have some dead bait leftover in the freezer from ice fishing season, was thinking of giving it a try. Otherwise I'll save it for some cats (and the occasional rogue northern) this summer...or next ice fishing season.Thanks.

Hit the Hoan 3 times this week. All afternoon fishing 2-4 hours.
Last Tuesday the perch bite was decent near the lighthouse. I came home with four keeper perch with one of those a decent jumbo, but all eaters. They were swallowing large fatheads. Didn't catch any small ones.
Went out again Wednesday and Friday, and blanked on the perch, after giving at least two hours each day. Fished the river side by the lighthouse each time. Moved to the marina side where the brown bite has been good to great. Everyone down the line pretty much catching 1 or more 3-5 lb silver browns. mostly off of large shiners suspended from bobbers, but 1 or 2 on silver spoons/cranks.
If you make it out I recommend picking up shiners. definitely the bait of choice for the fish right now. Any time of day seems to be OK.
