Got out for the first time today. Fished in the channel and the ice was only 3" where I was another guy said he had 4-5". Caught some small crappies couldn't find the big ones tho. Hopefully have better luck this weekend. Seemed to be good ice under the snow but still be careful when venturing onto new ground. Tight lines and good luck to everyone!

I usually go muskie fishing below the dam on T Day - made the mistake of going to the Packer game instead. Fishing the next day was about as good: nothing. Saw one guy snag a small muskie while fishing for walleyes- (good release- it was 100% accident), but I didn't get a bite. Nothing. Oh well, can't be great every year- hope if you get out - stay warm, and have better luck than I did! Good luck!

Last time I was on Mead, you could get around with a car real easy, but that was about 2 weeks ago. We haven't gotten much snow since, so I wouldn't think it would be much different now. The road isn't plowed though. If you don't want to drive, you can walk a short way to good fishing. Lots of fish caught, but not much for size. Plastics or bait both producing.

hey guys i was thinking of driving down from EC to do some morning fish on friday before the deep freeze sets in. Is it worth the trip? I know they dont get the biggest fish but im more interested in catching fish and would consider it a bonus to get some nice crappies.

Also how is the lake trave? can a rear wheel car get out and about a little out there? Is it a plowed road situation or just a good soul breaking trail?

thanks guys

Lots of people/cars/trucks/atvs/sleds on Mead today for ice fishing contest. Made it up there late, went to raffles/contest results at enclosed shelterhouse down by dam first, fished later. 7.something oz. bluegill, 15 oz. crappie, 3.5 lb. bass, no walleye registered. Vexilar, propane auger, vacation & tons of local sponsored door prizes. Waited around til I was for sure a non winner, headed up to south boat landing fished above near island on right in 11 feet of water 4ish. White Genz worm with white plastic tail instant action. 4 crappies & gills kept. Kept switching baits nearing dark, bite seemed to slow up not increase. Nice time out on the ice......good luck to all tomorrow. Hopefully going to Dexterville for another contest 10am to 3pm. Woody Eckes
