Mainly all small gills, lots of pike in here but many are too small to keep because of the regulations down here. I feel as though they should lower the regulations on pike in here so that they can grow, right now they seem a bit overpopulated and stunted.
Went from shore last couple days after work got a couple dandy gills had on one big northern that bit off bluegill rig all fish let go to spawn got my bait at the new self serve on Coolidge ave in plover nice selection of bait there
Izaak Walton fisheree this weekend, maybe one of those gators will show. Only bad part, taking it to the tent would probably turn into a dead fish which would be a shame. Anyhow fun couple of hours of fishing so I'll be in attendance

Lol wow... I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is an abundance of 20-28 inch pike in Mcdill. For those of you who think there are no big ones, ex. 35+, you are def wrong. I have caught multiple fish pushing 40 and two over since they drained it. I've caught mid 20"s pike and had them stolen by the big mamas. You will also see plenty of massive teeth/jaw marks on 1 of every 20 snakes you catch. As for the panfish. Yes, they are there. Ton of bluegills. Many nice perch which is surprising. Crappies still scarce. I too have witnessed people keeping too many as well as loading up on potato chip gills.. Sad that this body of water didn't even have a proper chance to recover. A few years closed to fishing would have done wonders.

KOlson- since when has McDill been a 10 min pan waterbody?? Or do you mean ppl are taking 25+ pans? 36" pike you sure that intel's correct... that's a big fish, 26" is the largest I've personally pulled, and they are not abundant here! i think someones pulling your leg... 36" is the biggest pike I've ever caught & NO way was it from here, tons of little snakes though.

McDill is recovering from the extended drawdown, but we need your help. PLEASE stick to the take 10 or enough for a fish fry, and let the rest go rule. We have had reports of people keeping over the limit, and the DNR has been notified and is actively patrolling McDill. If you see someone taking beyond the limit PLEASE take the license plate and call the TIP-WDNR # to file an anonymous report. While the panfish are coming back, we need everyone to help by only taking a meal worth. PS - many reports of 36" and longer pikes scaring the panfish away, so lifting a few legal pike out of McDill would be beneficial. Thanks - Krista Olson McDill Lake District President.

The bluegills are biting in the sloughs. Lots of smalls to sort through great for the kids to practice we took 6 home Christmas morning. Met a very rude and spoiled man, my 2 sons and I hit the ice at 615 am to set up the new Jaw jacker and my son's new Vexilar. As we were setting up he walks on the ice and tells me that won't work you have time jig them. Not what I wanted to tell my kids who got me them for Christmas. Then he says that that was his best hole yesterday. I didn't say much just kept setting up, then he drills 15 holes around and through me and the boys, one hole was 6 feet way from me while I'm fishing. It takes a lot to fire me up. About 15 minutes later as I am trying to get the new vex set up he comes and starts fishing in that hole and pulls a small bluegill. And says see there down there. No kidding.... he then tells me that he drilled all of these holes yesterday and he doesn't appreciate us fishing in them. I said we broke the ice in these this morning and last night, and I say the rule is you can't drill within 10 feet of an occupied hole and he was within that. Well your son is fishing my holes, as I turned my 12 year old had went to 2 of the 15 holes that he drilled and was unoccupied and started fishing them. I made my son pull his poles and fish the ones we were and told him they were unoccupied he is 12 and you are 6 feet from me, he is 12 what is your excuse? It didn't get better, I have been fishing here for 17 years and never had a problem with anyone ever until today. Christmas day of all days, my sons learned a lesson today, occupie the hole you want to fish, know the rules, and remeber ethics are no where to be found but from within. Merry Christmas to all, even to the guy I shall describe no further Merry Christmas may you catch that fish that will satisfy your hunger so you will be more understanding and forgiving to others. I know I have already caught that fish and LET IT GO!
