Howdy,

My son and I are coming up to the MW Chain for the first time the week of September 15th. Just wondering what the water levels might be. I can see from places like the Willow that the water levels are pretty good (only down 5 feet is good to us). Will they still drop the Chain 2 or 3 feet after Labor Day?

Thanks,

Jim K

I spent the first weekend of June on the chain last year and had no problem getting around from lake to lake in a 21ft bass boat. It was my first time ever on the chain. It helped tremendously that a high school buddy of mine has lived on the chain for many years. We too caught many many small mouths. One of which came from under a pier that was just over 21" and most likely over 5#s. I caught this same fish 3 mornings in a row from under the same pier. I'll be back this year in early June and will probably make this an annual trip.......

that is a 24" bumping board

A friend and I went up there early May last year. The dam was closed so the water was quite low everywhere on the chain. Fawn Lake was very hard to navigate, as was the river between Manitowish Lake and alder Lake. Good thing was that the crappies were on fire

You should be able to reach each lake with ease especially with the amount of snow we have had up there this year. Usually if water level is low it is due to a mild winter. If the water is low the only lake you might have trouble with is Clear Lake as it can get quite shallow. Can't give up exact spots but have had plenty of success bass fishing up there the past few years. Island Lake is the best lake on the chain for huge Small Mouth. Like 14-18 inchers!!! Clear lake is the best lake for Large Mouth by far!!! Caught multiple 18 inchers.

Was thinking about coming up to manitowish waters for a week with the family this summer. We have a 16ft bass boat and were wondering if you can get to each lake with no problem. Like is the water ever too shallow or anything? Also we mainly target largemouth and smallmouth bass so is this are pretty decent for those? PM if you don't want to make it public and any information would be much appreciated!

Thank you, BM

Anyone doing any good? Heading up next week through the New Year. My place is on Little Star which does not like to give up her fish. Anyone have any pointers? I planning on hitting Clear and Rest. I pretty much fish for everything.

Coming up for a quick weekend to pull the boats. Hoping to search for some walleye while up. Any word on the bite or location/depth/cover info would be greatly appreciated.

I was up the first week of Aug and over Labor Day weekend. 1st trip I caught a bunch of pike largest being 30", caught a few decent largemouth & smallmouth and hooked into a 50"+ Muskie and smaller one about 40". The larger pikes, smaller Muskie and some smallmouth were caught on Little Star. Smallmouth also on Rest Lake, and a bunch of small pike and the big guy in the channels. The largemouth were caught in the channel on the south side of the bridge leading to Wild Rice.

Labor Day weekend was not as good. Just a few small pike and one decent SM. Pikes in the channels and the bass in Little Star. Happy Fishing!
