Went out to Loon tonight to go after some bass and the many sunfish in the lake. Mostly worked the shallow bays and the 10 to 15 foot contour lines. Didn't have much luck close to the beach in the little bay there. There I fished a 5in YUM dinger in watermelon red flake texas rigged with a 1/8oz bullet weight and I also fished a rapala crankin' rap 08 in firetiger. Out in the open water and along the ried and lilly pad edges, I worked an arbogast jointed jitterbug in black color. Facing towards the south end of the lake not too far from the kayak launch, my brother had on and almost landed a nice pike about 30 inches long on a rapala DT fat 3 in caribbean shad. So overall the night was good, can't wait for the fall bite Smile

My wife and family are headed up to Copper Falls in late July or early August. I saw there were not many previous postings, but was hoping someone could provide information about the lake. Also, how is the trout fishing in the area streams?

Thanks again, Rob

I have the same sad report as gstring, only I spent dusk hours working the canoe launch area. I landed a little perch and a tiny northern on Rapalas. Had no strikes on spinners or buzzbaits, and one hit on a plastic. Had some folks trot in and tell me it was the best area of the lake to fish and how they had caught all kinds of 16-18 bass and large northerns. Just not my week I guess.

Copper falls is a pretty cool park, though.

Fished Loon Lake over a period of three days while camping at Copper Falls. Cruised the whole body in a canoe, fishing with leeches, Powerbait Twisters and whatnot. Cast to the pads, drifted over droppoffs and deep water fishing the mid-depths and feel we got a pretty thorough idea of what was going on in the lake

WAY too many stunted bluegill in the lake. These fish were a real nuisance, and it took some work to avoid them. As we covered the water, many really fishy- and bassy-looking areas proved to be EMPTY. We had few sightings of fish as we covered the water, which causes me additional concern about how good a fishery this is right now.

We DID catch a few 12-inch or so bass and one MASSIVE bluegill that made a good accounting of itself on my tiny ultralight. But there is a 16-inch minimum size on bass for the time being to help control the bluegill. This, combined with the small size of the majority of the 'bills meant there was no fish to eat on our trip. We caught a couple of hammer-handle sized northern as well, and one tiny pike actually attached a mid-sized bluegill as it was being landed.

The ranger said there are crappie in the lake, but we found none. We did also catch a couple of smallish perch.

Bottom line -- frustrating lake that seems to need some remediation on behalf of the DNR. At least the loons are cool to look at ...

Fished the lake for the first time ever on Saturday. Only caught 4 bass--biggest being 18 inches--all on tube jigs. Tough to fish a lake for the first time. Anyone ever fish the lake with leeches. Usually they do really good on lakes in the area--awful weedy though to be fishing without a bobber. Are there really nice bluegills in that lake. Thanks for any information.

I am planning a Memorial Day weekend at Copper Falls. Was wondering if anyone has fished this lake before. I herd pan fish, bass, and snakes were the hot topic. Any info would be much appreciated.
