Went out fishing yesterday afternoon for a few hours. Water clarity was better than should be expected for Long Lake. Eventually landed a few decent bluegill and crappie in 13 FOW. We were just using small jigs tipped with wax worms or spikes. The bite was very sporadic.

Ice was a solid 18 inches. Tip ups in all day and no flags. Also saw some guys using tip ups along west side with no luck. Jigging was slow. Marked fish in 25 feet of water, but no takers. Moved to 10 feet of water and got on some decent gills. Water is never clear on this lake, but more clear than years past.

Took my 4 yr old son out for his first ice fishing trip. Found fish set up shack. fish disappared. Find fish set up shack fish gone. Every time I switched bait fish would show up. Drop bait they'd look then gone. Guessing lil pearch one nibble in 3 hrs. My son did not want to give up but I knew he was getting too cold. Was using various size and color jigs with red spikes. Waxies were getting no interest. Disappointed we didn't catch nothing. But I glad I got a new fishing buddy as crazy as his ol man. Happy New year
