I tried trolling the shipping canal Friday night, Saturday morning and for a little while today with a variety of baits and only caught two carp and seen no salmon landed.
Lake Michigan, Sturgeon Bay, Door County
Hi this is my first year fishing on Lake Michigan and Me and my dad and brother are going camping at Peninsula State park this upcoming weekend. I was thinking about trying to troll for salmon or trout in the shipping canal or out on lake from shipping channel. I was wondering what depths and how far down people have been fishing out of Sturgeon Bay. Feel free to PM me information if you don't want to share it on this thread.

Fished 3 days here and did fairly well for the walleye and smallmouth but have obviosly been noticing the huge growth of sheepshead. caught about a 12 lb sheephead and have never seen anything like that before. Hopfully the fishing turns around in a couple weeks.

Report from weekend 8/6 and 8/7.
Saturday, 1 for 3. Hot water!! 2 hits on dipsy with flasher fly set as deep as we could get it. 1 salmon came on downrigger set deep at 111 down over 130 FOW on pearl fly. that was it. slow day out there and lots of boat traffic. water was 72 degrees surface, thermocline pretty deep almost near bottom.
Sunday, went for a mid day run when we had time and ended up being a boat ride washing lures. Not even a hit. Tried many depths running 250 to 330 fow and 100 to 180 fow. Water temps pretty warm and temp didn't reach 50 degrees until almost 100 ft down. Ran deep lines for just a couple hours and called it.

Fished Saturday evening 5 good kings 13 to 16 pounds. One Rainbow 13 pounds. Lost 6 others. Everything was good until the wind abruptly changed hard out of the north. Water temp on the surface went from 58.9 to 56.2 within an hour and shut down. Most came on a dipsys 125 out on a chrome flasher and Howie's Frog fly. A couple of hits on an Orange Julius Spoon on a rigger 55 down. Did not get any Temps on probe, having issues. However I did see a first, a flock of gulls diving on bait fish in 127 feet of water. Marking a lot of bait fish. Image of one of the kings.
Sat we went 4 for 5 all rainbows with a drive by on a flash fly 160-200fow
3 of the 4 came on mag spoons on 2/3 color 400' away from the boat
#4 and 5 we lost were on 8 colors straight back.
Only action we had Sunday was a dipsy set at 70' deep that peeled out 100' of line and broke off. Was a coyote flasher and dream weaver mtn dew fly.
Other than that we couldn't buy a bite
Anyone else do any good this weekend? Lots of charters going out and some chatter on the radios they were doing good.
Any advice for next weekend?

Report from Monday 5/30
Fished evening time from 5-930pm. Put a few fish in the boat around sunset hour. Ended up 3 for 4. Hooked up with 2 steelhead and 1 salmon. Largest steelhead on our boat yet at 15.4#! Missed another fish, assuming steelhead as we had a few jumps and off the hook.. Fish were mainly hitting bright colored spoons in the top 40 ft of water column. One came on white flasher and white/pearl fly. Our fish were mixed on riggers, lead core boards and dipsy. Water temps varied from 49 to 45 degrees surface down to 40 degrees on the bottom. Good to be back out on the lake again!
