Looking for a fish and ice report before heading up this weekend.  I've never fished the lake before.

There were many holes on the ice and water all over the ice making it slippery and that made it slightly dangerous, but we caught some good sized northern and a bucket of small pan-fish, and two decent crappie on minnows. Used bright yellow jigs with meal-worms, fatheads on hooks and northern and musky chubs. Northern on flags. Also many small fish that like to take your bait.

The crappies are getting a little bigger. I caught several in the 11" range this evening. They bit good for about an hour from 3:00 to 4:00. Before and after that they were hugging the bottom and biting real light. A tiny tungsten jig tipped with a waxie was catching perch, gills and a few crappie early on. Once they got hungry, I switched to a small silver cast-master tipped with a minnow head. Caught around 25 crappies, 3 perch and a dozen gills. All released today.

Fished on Saturday for a few hours in the afternoon. Crappies and gills were biting in 9 to 11 FOW over the weeds. The size is still running smaller. There should be some bigger crappies somewhere but I haven't got them to bite yet. Moved to some rocks in 6 to 10 FOW just before dark and caught 2 walleyes. 12 & 16 inches. Both came jigging a forage minnow tipped with a minnow head. Ice is in good shape. Little bit of slush in places. The snow is getting deeper so 2WD vehicles could start having a hard time getting around.

I've been catching a mixed bag a perch, crappies and gills the last couple days. They are running on the small side, but enough keepers for a couple meals. Bonus 18" walleye tonight on the crappie jig. Smile I didn't measure the ice, but it looked like 10 to 12 inches. Trucks and ice shacks all over.

I was going to wait until this weekend, but we had a couple hours to fish this afternoon, since the Packers weren't worth watching. We put in a few tip-ups and jigged around on the North end. 3 small northern, 1 small crappie and 1 perch. Kind of a slow start to the ice season, but it was nice to be out there. 4 inches of good clear ice. There is a little snow on top so it is not so slippery.

I was able to get out yesterday before the stomr hit, and I was able to catch some nice gills and crappie. I was fishing right off the dock on the weed edge. I was fishing with a worm and bobber, then also a jig with a minnow.

The last 3 days have been great fishing! With the warmer weather last week, the water temp is up. The gills were on their beds, along with some late spawning crappies. Small steamer flies on the fly rod were taking everything. Nice size with gills up to 10" and crappies up to 12". Most of the gills are pretty grubby so we only kept a few of the cleaner ones and some crappies. Both still had eggs in them. Thursday and Friday were better for them. The water was a bit cooler today and the gills and crappies left the shallows again. The bass, however, were on fire! About an even split between smallies and largemouth. Nothing real big but they were fun on the fly rod. Using deer-hair mouse and green and white bass streamers. My son has been creating some awesome flies! He's working on a green frog fly right now. Will try it out tomorrow.
