We gave a good effort this weekend. We had our Annual musky outting .Hillside had a tournament. 2 muskies were caught. Most of our group seen nothing. I have been fishing this lake for 30 years. I think the musky population is way down from the late 80's to early 2000's.for the last 5 years our group has seen fewer fish every year. I'm not saying there is no musky. But our group all agrees there are fewer musky. The panfish numbers. Seem great. Alto of small crappies and pike Everywhere. This is just my opinion.
You'll have to end to end 2 planks at least to get on by Indian Villiage & there's open water by Misery Bay lauch. The dog went through there 2 days ago about 15-18 ft. offshore...sad about the fish die off this year on LVD...hate to say it...but it sounds like because of deep frost & snow/mud...some resorts aren't opening til'' the 18th....we need rain to eat this ice! I'm thinkin' if I'm pining for my boat..might have to go to The Bay of GB

In answer to the ice depth it varies lake to lake. With 1630 lakes in Vilas I can't speak for them all. The Eagle River chain may have some shorelines that you can get out on come Saturday, Watersmeets is open. The Twins have 27 inches of ice14 of that is rotten the rest is good. You need to check your lake on your terms. Some of these lakes can still take ice fishing and you can use tip-ups but that risk will be yours. Right now your on your own so to speak.
