The lake totally froze over the night of Nov. 10th, and I measured 2" today(Thurs. 16th). Wasn't too solid as the further I went out, the more the ice was cracking and sagging, mostly from the 40's we had the last couple days and rain. Will update after returning back from deer camp.

MOON PHASE
Full Moon

Spent last week on LVD with family and friends. Targeted muskies and pike most mornings and panfish/bass in the daytime. As usual, very limited success for the big toothy critters. All action came on bucktails burning just under the surface. Had one low-30s musky smash the bucktail (no hooks), otherwise nothing but small pike. We hit spots all over the lake, primarily in 6-12' of water over weed tops. Bumped into two walleye while panfishing in the evening, one 12.5" and one 8.5". Others in the group had decent luck with crappies, mostly near the various spots with bullrushes. The kids got into a mess of small panfish right off the piers, plus a few bonus magnum rock bass under the boat lifts. See you next year.

Just wondering how fishing is on the desert? I'm coming up with my father and son June 8th,9th,10th and 11th. Mostly gonna target perch and pan fish but also gonna cast alittle for musky.

Great opener....Hodag brought up good fact...another is...by law...your freezer has to be empty when fishing here...& once you have your daily limit..you also have your posession limit..no 2 day posession here.So..by law...you cannot fish this lake while in posession of fish..goofy....but it does get enforced......tried the "other lake" thing...but the wardens aren't green....border lakes...a whole different game....I fish  the "High Lake" style of limit...5-5-5....5 crappie, 5 perch, 5 bluegill....plenty for a fry for 3....I'm blessed to live here so I can eat fresh...10-15....all I need

Great opener weekend fishing with two buddies on LVD.  Got a mess of nice crappies and then got a bunch of nice 18-26 walleyes.  Wind was a bit of a challenge, but nothing a hundred feet of anchor rope and a shock absorber couldn't handle.

Walleyes were hitting leaches and ignoring crawlers.  Crappies on tiny plastics under bobbers.

Not many out fishing this last weekend of February. Drove up from Green Bay to try something different and got that. Past trips, we caught perch and were happy with that ,but this time it was pike. Big shiners on tip ups and jigging rods with fat heads worked equally well. We had as many break offs, as catches, for the day and released a few too. After being lulled to sleep with no action the rod would nearly be ripped from your hand when not paying attention. We hit Big Sand on Sunday with similar results. The ice there was 18 inches so driving out with my Suburban was no problem on either lake.

Just pulled my shacks back out for a group that just got here and measured 13" base ice - that was 16" two days ago. The sun really ate the surface yesterday and the run off holes I mentioned a couple days ago are NOT getting any smaller. Will be interesting to see what happens if we get the snowstorm on Friday. Its raining at present - Wed. 2 PM. Ice cleats are  a necessity until we get the snow.  Lac Vieux Desert being a boundary water, game fish season always closes on March 1st.
