Looking for ice conditions, and any information on areas to focus on to jig for panfish. Thank you in advance.
MOON PHASE (28%)
Walked out New Year's Day. Had good ice but less then I thought only 5-6 inches. Only had a few hours and didn't move much. Managed to pull about 30 perch up, one nice one and the rest small-very small. 18 fow. Going to try again soon. Wouldn't recommend driving trucks out yet.
MOON PHASE (6%)
31° - 35° F
Rained last night. The ice is very sloppy. Just off the north edge of the 30' hole. 2" of good ice with 2" of decent ice and an inch or 2 of slush on top at 14' of water. Give it another week it is not worth it!
MOON PHASE (68%)
86° - 90° F
Above 80° F
I fished Kelly lake last week and caught a few fish everyday during the week. Average was 5 to 15 mostly bass. Average size was 12 to 16" and all released. In years past the number was more like 25 and up / day with multiple species. (I do not pan fish s if you are catching bluegills and other sunfish this report may not address you.)
This lake is in decline. It used to be fun to fish but since the walleye stocking, there are limited small bass and no walleye caught. The meat hunters who troll the lake on a daily basis are hurting this lake. Take out the breeders and you send a lake into decline.
A couple of years ago the weeds were dense and then were gone for a couple of years. Some weeds are back and visible but it will be awhile for this lake to get back to normal. Zebra mussels are now in the lake but really no major effect at this point. Bottom line... don't make a drive to fish this lake for a couple of years.
