MOON PHASE
New Moon

Fished this lake today.  Catch and release with some folks caught.   Honestly this lake would heal alot faster if the ice fishermen didn't keep every fish they catch

There are still plenty of northerns in this lake but not much size. Last year i caught over 20 northerns with only one being 26". Find the weed edges in about 8-10 FOW. Use medium shiners. Large bait wont weed out smaller fish. I saw crappies pass under my hole but those 3 were the only panfish i saw out of that lake bedsides a perch. Let the panfish rest and catch and release the pike. Couple years and it will beable to produce again

Just to get more conformations on the thread this lake did experience a winter kill. There are still some fish in there but not enough to warrant investing too much time. This place was a lot of fun and it will be again someday. For now it should be left alone so it can recoup. Those that do fish it still should really practice catch and release.

If you go back to pages 5-6 you will see some brief discussion of a winter kill 3 years ago (winter of 13/14).  I can confirm it happened, I smelled the lake with my own nose.  I contacted the DNR at that time as well.  Clearly not everything died, but there certainly was a large die off due to low oxygen levels.  This lake doesn't "freeze out", but it does get oxygen depleted in years if thick ice/heavy snow fall.

Reba it froze out. No one is saying there isn't a fish or two left. It's just not worth the while. If 20 inch pile are you go to have at it And the picture of fish you posted are not impressive. I'm starting to think your bigbluetruck otherwise apples really don't fall far from the tree

MOON PHASE (63%)
Waning Gibbous

Understandable, not hating just curious.  Dont mind me I am just suffering from fishing withdrawl, 3 weeks without a rod in hand can drive a man to do crazy things :)  Good fishing to all.

Then again maybe you guys are right id hate to get out there and not catch anything was hoping that northerns being a tougher fish might have made it through the kill off

Used to fish this lake alot until it froze out a few years ago. Was hoping it would be starting to come back this year. Ill prolly give it a try to see for myself this year used to do decent on northerns. And yes there were some monster northerns in here cousin has one on the wall was a 39 incher. Would be a real shame if this lake turned to crap. Ill post results once I get out there maybe next weekend.
