Fished this lake today. Catch and release with some folks caught. Honestly this lake would heal alot faster if the ice fishermen didn't keep every fish they catch
Just to get more conformations on the thread this lake did experience a winter kill. There are still some fish in there but not enough to warrant investing too much time. This place was a lot of fun and it will be again someday. For now it should be left alone so it can recoup. Those that do fish it still should really practice catch and release.
If you go back to pages 5-6 you will see some brief discussion of a winter kill 3 years ago (winter of 13/14). I can confirm it happened, I smelled the lake with my own nose. I contacted the DNR at that time as well. Clearly not everything died, but there certainly was a large die off due to low oxygen levels. This lake doesn't "freeze out", but it does get oxygen depleted in years if thick ice/heavy snow fall.
Reba it froze out. No one is saying there isn't a fish or two left. It's just not worth the while. If 20 inch pile are you go to have at it And the picture of fish you posted are not impressive. I'm starting to think your bigbluetruck otherwise apples really don't fall far from the tree
