Ha! I was just reading about sturgeon season in Wisconsin. Here's a link, but I believe it is only catch and release. Sounds like fun, though.

This past weekend was my 1st trip here, probably not going to be a regualar spot, but I'm glad I checked it out. Caught a couple of little ones off crawlers with a casting weight.

On a side note, there were sturgeon jumping and swimming everywhere. Is that common for this location? Other than being prehistoric I don't know much about the species. Does it last all summer, or is this their "run" (like the salmonoids do in fall and the walleyes do in the earlier part of spring). Please feel free to PM me. I don't intend on targeting sturgeon, (actually I'm glad they hit some other guys bait and not mine), but it was fascinating.

That is just sick, and to brag about it is even sicker. Torturing innocent animals is pretty low. That is also how serial killers get started, you know.

I do not care if it is illegal. There, I said it. Nor do I care about what you think of my manhood. And spare me the "i do it cause i think it's cool" BS.

I do other things that are illegal, too. I had a few sips of alcohol before I turned 21. I have eclipsed the speed limit. I may have even forgotten to wear my seat belt once or twice. Jeez, I'm a regular criminal.

I'm so sorry if my behavior offends you, Nacho Programmer! Call the cops, I belong in prison.

p.s. who said anything about leaving it on the bank? I prefer cutting the throat, bleeding it out, and tossing it back in the water. Wink

That makes you a real man and really cool.

That is immoral, disgusting and illegal*. Treat the resources with respect. And it is rather stupid, too, considering walleye eat smaller suckers... Release them means more forage.

*It is illegal because if you kill it and throw it on the bank, it is considered littering. If you kill it and keep it, keeping a snagged rough fish is illegal as well.

Once in a while i'll kill a snagged sucker. I think of it as a sacrifice to the walleye Gods. Seems like when fishing is really slow, killing a sucker really gets the walleyes going. Gotta appease the Gods! Cool

Umm yes you are wrong. It is legal to throw roughfish back when caught on hook and line. It is ILLEGAL to throw them on the shore and not take them home when you leave.

Anyway I took my new boat out today mostly just to see how it runs didn't fish much but there were maybe 3 other boats in the river besides me. Never seen the river so deserted.

Icefish1234,

Unfortunately, people like you are a dime a dozen. And in my line of work, I get to run into all of you. Someday, you might be able to broaden your thinking and realize the ecological and biological importance of the many diverse resources we have in Wisconsin, even if you don't utilize them yourself. Not all resources will be beneficial for your dinner table, and some you may even find to be a pain in the rear and annoying, but they are still a valuable resource to the ecosystem as a whole. I know of a lot of people who eat suckers, and prepare them in many different ways. I personally have not, but would not object at all. And as I said earlier, you wont in any way be able to affect the population by removing the ones you snag and tossing them on the bank to rot. You will just make a disgusting mess, just like the other garbage and graffiti, and show poor judgement and character on your own part. Maybe as you grow up, you will be able to obtain some wisdom and maturity and understand these concepts. Or maybe not and the ideas will be foreign to you. Either way, keep the fish you aren't going to keep and utilize in the water where they belong. And lets get back to fishing updates.
