I read your comments and would like to set the record straight. Yes, I have a small resort on Fishtrap Lake and the water and fishing is really good. Yes there is heavy weeds along the shore during the summer but that's what makes the fishing good. Plenty of cover for bass and other game fish to grow. Just like any good Musky lake, you have to know what you're doing and you can get skunked if you're not fishing hard.

Here's what the DNR has listed for Fishtrap Lake. If you disagree, then take it up with the DNR instead of complaining on forums like this.
•    Musky (Common)
•    Panfish (Common)
•    Largemouth Bass (Common)
•    Walleye (Common)
•    Smallmouth Bass (Present)
•    Northern Pike (Present)

Attached are some of the photos of fish caught on Fishtrap Lake this year from our guests. One guest caught two 30"-40" muskies in two days from a kayak and he was trying to catch bass. He also caught dozens of bass.

I'm curious; how many days and hours did you spend on the lake?

Heading up to Fishtrap Lake in a couple weeks. Looking for any information from fellow fishermen who may have recent or past experience for the lake, High Lake (attached to Fishtrap), or the river feeding said.

We are not specific to one species as we like to hit them all!

Thanks in advance!

late posting...june 9-13 we fished this lake. tried high but with little success the times we crossed over. ran into splasman who had great success on high.

we weren't doing so well until just before a front came thru. also, started to use bobbers and "killed" crappie for about an hour. fished in 6 fow. 4 ft down. just jig heads tipped with crawler. most of our fish caught were gills in the shallows on the first day. most were small but a lot of fun with every cast hits. this "action" seemed to end after day 1. jig heads and crawlers 2 feet under a bobber worked well. even though the water tempts were up, I don't think spawning was complete. I'd bet this last week was good for fishing.

this is a pretty good fishing lake. for whatever reason, I don't do as well as splashman but he's spent many more hours working these lakes than I. though I hate to admit it, he's a pretty good fisherman.

MuskyDude, I would suggest trying to fish High Lake over Fishtrap if your ice fishing. Your going to see much more luck with panfish and walleye on High. Also I doubt that you only had 5" of ice during this part of the year unless your on a different Fishtrap Lake in a different part of the world.

I haven't ice fished High yet this year but have always had luck in years past. This last fall I was on both High and Fishtrap once and between 3 boats had seen/caught a dozen plus muskies within that Saturday. One of the boats fished walleye all afternoon/evening and had good luck with the walleye as well.

I live in Central Wisconsin and I make a trip to High/Fishtrap at least once every fall and usually once during ice season. It is one of my main lakes along with Laq, Clear, Crab, and Twin just to name a few which I always seem to do well on. Remember muskie fishing isn't always about going into shallow bays and chucking big baits but during super early mornings seems to work... Big Smile
