Memorial day weekend I and 10 others will be saying in a lodge along the lake. We're looking forward to it as it is the celebration of a close friend's bachelor party. I would just like to inquire as to the species of fish we can expect to catch from May 24th-27th....and where. Any info would be much appreciated!

Hi sorry this is not a report just a general question. I want to go up north this weekend march 1 to 2nd I live in southern wi and have a place up in florence. Are the lakes up there easy to drive on? My dad does not want to go because he thinks our Yukon will get stuck. Will the lakes be easier to drive on/not get stuck by Friday? Any lakes in general not just specifically Fay lake? Thanks

Late report: Was up on Fathers day and my 4 yr old caught a few crappie. I had many pike follows. One pike I raised 4 times to the surface inside of 45 seconds. Ended with one keeper ~30" on a walleye sucker under a bobber.

To Dan & Diane and everyone else:

I apologize. Apparently you have really turned things around at this place.

My posts were based on our visit that as I said was about 5 years ago ( I looked through my fishing records and found it was actually the summer of 2004).

Nothing in my posts was made up though. At that time the resort was terrible. Probably the most troublesome issue was calling 1 of the cabins a 3 bedroom and finding 1 of the bedrooms was actually a closet. That really did happen. They had an actual closet ( or a tiny storage room, I don't know the exact dimensions but I would guess it was no bigger than 5' x 7') with a bed crammed into it, with the bed touching the walls, no window, no second exit. That was truly deceptive, dangerous and I'd have to guess illegal. We went up with 2 other couples and everyone was shocked by this. The previous owners of this place ran about the worst operation I have ever seen or heard of.

Of course we have not even considered a second stay here after that experience so I was unaware that ownership had changed and their business practices had changed. Not knowing about the changes I was hoping to give someone a factual description of our experience. I guess my post was a snapshot of a time in the past that thankfully has been improved.

Kudos to the new owners thankfully no one else will experience the ruined vacation that we did.

p.s. I did remove my previous post since it seems it is no longer valid

Just got time to sit in front of the computer. First, i want to appoligize to Dan and Diane if from me asking for a fishing report turned into something negative towards the resort. SECOND, I WANT TO THANK DAN AND DIANE FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE, GREAT HOSPITALITY, AND A WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY. The posts following my question for a fishing report are very very untrue. Not only is the resort a GREAT place to take a family(6 of us with 7 month old), Dan and Diane are very nice people and you can tell they are sticking they're heart and sole into the resort....not to mention the fishing is outstanding. They provide you with anything you need; a warm place to put your head(crib if needed), a hot shower, refrigerator, stove, basically everything you need without having to pack it. As far as the decks go, tell me how someone can feel like they are going to fall through. Heck, it was so comfortable and peaceful, the girlfriends dad took a nice nap....and he didnt fall through. How many places can you go to and on the first cast catch a nice pike off the deck of the cabin you're sleeping in?

As for the fishing, it was great! We caught 25 plus pike and a bunch of panfish with sub-par weather. Every where on the lake we went, we caught fish And Jay, the guy in the picture and his friend caught a ton of fish. They have live bait and a wonderful fish cleaning house.

We've already told other people and they want to book a trip.

If anyone would like to send me a message with any question's, i would kindly answer them. Don't miss out on this great place in the northwoods.

Thanks Again Dan and Diane!!!

We are Dan and Diane, the new owners of Fay Lake Resort. We feel that we must respond to the gross misrepresentation of our resort by cantworkgottafish, and to a smaller degree, FDog23.

We have heard from our customers that there have been cleaning issues in the cabins by the previous owner. However, there are absolutely no bedrooms here that are closet size with no room to walk around the bed, nor any without windows. And there is, of course, a door to the room in which the shower is in.

None of the cabins could be considered to be "close to tar paper shacks, rickety shacks, or miserable, crappy cabins" as stated. The cabins were built between the 1920's and 1950's and are remarkably sturdy.

The property itself is certainly not a dump as stated, and to say that it is not good enough for a family vacation is also not true, as evidenced by the many families that are into their second and third generations of annual family vacations here.

We are very sorry for the stated sales tactics of the previous owner, and would never condone that type of behavior. We make sure our new customers understand the rustic style of our resort, which only means that it is simple and unpretentious. Our focus is on maintaining the relaxing, family atmosphere of an old fashioned fishing resort with clean, comfortable cabins and friendly personnel.

In the short time that we noticed your posts until now, there have been over a hundred views of it. We are truly distressed to think of the number of views there may have been in the prior week.

By the way, the fishing was great this weekend for our guests!! This picture is of the second 31"+ northern of the day for Jay.

We're not expecting a 5 star resort or anything. Just a place to have a nice time with family maybe catch a few fish, maybe enough for a fish fry one night. Not looking for a trophy or anything, just a good time and some good fishing.
