Tried the bay side at Ellison today.  Water still too cold, around 49 in most parts.  Boated 2 smallies and 1 brown trout which was a nice surprise.  Still no beds seen

It was chained off last year. The owner passed away in December. I am unsure what is going on with the launch this year. I'm heading there this weekend. Will post with info Saturday.

There is a boat launch where Cottage Rd meets Hwy 42 on the south end of Gills Rock.

Just looking for a boat launch.

My folks just got a permanent campsite in Door County, and I am going to head up for some salmon fishing with my dad. Would like to launch somewhere near Gills Rock if possible? Searched online but couldn't find any county launches near there. Just a 17' boat.

Thanks for any help.

I'm heading up in July but just wanted to know if anyone has fished this area for anything besides salmon and trout? Such as smallmouth/pike/panfish? Also do live baits or artificials work better? Thanks K

Anybody hearing anything around the Ellison Bay / Gills Rock area for salmon fishing? With the main lake side heating up I'd expect the same to be happening on the bay side. Will be up there up over the 4th.

Thanks!

Thought this might be of some interest to those that fish this area. My grandmother passed away in early January and this was among the things she left for me.

The caption on the back of the photo reads "Good catch at Gills Rock 1945"

No idea how many anglers it took to catch this many.

Should have posted a couple of weeks ago; I'm sure the ice is gone now. I did set up some tip ups and jig close to the edge of the ice not far from Deaths Door Bluff. There was a solid 20 inches or more of ice that day. The boulders littering the bottom made it hard to see fish with my sonar, but when I dropped the cam down in the clear water I saw whitefish cruising around. This was in 60 FEET of water! The current caused the camera to shake but I still saw some sniffers come up to my spoon and then swim away. Found out when the rain started my flip over leaks bad. As you can see, my bro was not impressed with a skunk.

Thanks for the information, Capt Lynn. With the forecasted S winds this weekend we might need to give the area a try.
