Yes I was just there today and there was quite a few people fishing the shoreline
All those flooded trees really did make for a bass fishing paradise. I had a good friend, who has since passed, that loved this lake. He caught a 25# 5 fish limit out of here, roughly year 2000. Jig & pig, flipping up in the wood.
Had the pleasure of fishing there on many occasions, all the way back into the early 80s. Giant crappies back then, fish over 14". Then the LMB took over, and for a while, it was special.
But hardly a real secret. Is the lake still surrounded by shore fishermen in the spring? Used to be hundreds out, fishing the gills, seeds, and crappie.

Crystal was the best numbers bass lake I have ever fished, I probably have fished over 100 lakes in SE WI so that is saying something. I can remember 150-200 bass a trip with 3 guys in boat. Wasn't a ton of hawgs but would get a 3-4 lb fish once in awhile, used to be excellent crappie and gills also. I have no clue what lake is like now, havent been there in 8 years. I do know that the only lake in WI that has ever had Stripers is Lake Columbia. I can remember lots of coworkers telling me they kill the Stripers in spring, it was always White bass or Yellow bass they were talking about. Funny stuff with all the Striper (Stripper) talk. Im glad Crystal isnt what it used to be, it was 1.5 hrs to get there and I don't have the time to drive that far these days, glad I was able to experience the glory days, I am sure many others did also. It was one of the few lakes I fished in WI that had great wood to fish, it looked like a bass fishermans paradise.
I've only fished here once but the bay across from the campground was pretty good. I caught a decent sized bass, small panfish and bullheads. I also caught some tiny perch under the pier at the boat launch, could have been excellent bait for bigger fish but I didn't have time to try that.

OMG you guys are killing me LOL. Better tone it down before it all gets nuked. Anyway, yes there is a good population of bullhead in the lake right now. Back in the day that is all this lake had. Rising waters made room for more sought after species. But the population of bullhead has increased the last few years for some reason. There is no normal for this lake.
If you want bullhead check out all the water by the storage bins at Buchanan's outside Crystal Lake Campground. I'm not posting his number on social media, but you would definitely need permission to fish it.
According to monster, there are a lot of strippers in this lake. i dont think it would be appropriate to bring the kids. Ha Ha ! Seriously, I have only fished that lake a few times and am not familiar with the bullheads. I have only caught crappies and did see one nice largemouth caught. Good luck !
