A quick question fellas. I am thinking about launching and fishing the Crawfish up from Jefferson and wondered if the launch below the island is still open for use and if the water is still high enough to safely navigate a 16' deep V up the river a few miles. Thank you for your reply.

If your by Creek try the bridge right on HWY B on the rock. where the Johnny Creek enters the Rock I ve had good luck there but I dont waste my time with stink bait or crawlers because I have to sift thru the little guys for the keepers and have to deal with the bullheads and carp. I use live bait fish 3"-8" in length with a 1oz weight, small gills (can get them in the between the rocks down there) or use live suckers or shiners. My buddy and I fish the Rock alot and averaged 10-15 pounders last year smallest we got was 7 lbs. And using bait fish you can luck out and get Walleye,Pike and if your really lucky like my buddy he got a 22" smallie that he had mounted. just down river from the pillers are good the big boys like to sit there out of the current and pretty much anywhere else you can cast there. The large open flat there is good at dusk they come in to feed. As for Aztalan state park its good fishing here and there. spring and fall the walleye and white bass are fun there.

Mr pike. I'm new to the area. Looking for a few places to fish. I checked out the state park looked less than ideal. Wondering if you could help me out with a few places to fish close to Johnson creek

If your trying to catch cats on the crawfish river...try stink bait with vegtable oil in it to make it creamy. I've been using crawlers mostly. Been catching them anytime of the day. Went out twice last weekend. Caught alot of channel cats, white bass and drum or sheepshead. Landed a couple walleyes too. Now I'm fishing mostly for sport.

What do you use to catch catfish because I always get carp when I use a worm on the Crawfish in Jefferson.
