Waxing Crescent

CONDITIONS
Snowing

ICE DEPTH
12 inches

AIR TEMP
16° - 20° F

WATER TEMP
Below 40° F

Fished 2/24/17-2/25/17.  Found one small spot on the south end that we were able to get a plank across to get to solid ice.  All other landings and shorelines we explored had 6-12' of slush/water before reaching solid ice.  Once out we had 12-15" of ice.  Still a few spots where you'd break thru the top crust and push down 2-3" of slush(all the melted snow from previous warm week). Fished Friday afternoon in blizzard like conditions for 2 hours and only caught a few perch. Had to resort to just watching tipups the last hour due to frozen hands.   5 of us fished Saturday it started off windy, but at least the sun came out.  Spent the entire day on the ice. Large shiners on tip-ups. had about 20 flags over the coarse of the day. Caught 4 Pike 23-28", 1 largemouth bass(14-1/4"). Jigging wax worms caught about 10 small perch, 2 nice bluegill, and 1 crappie(12").

Fished the flowage from 6:15 am until 5:45 pm on 2/18/17. Ice depth at 16" and brought out truck. Caught approximately 15 fish, 8 keepers (4 crappie, 4 bluegills) and two northern (29" and 33"). Keeper fish had light bite. Ice was incredibly soft on the way out. Two launches were broken up. Use EXTREME caution if taking a truck out.

PM 15 Based upon what I saw this past Saturday, put your tip ups (2 per person) in 8' or less of water (most anywhere on the lake), then jig for panfish within a short jog to your flag or a third tip up for your third line. Use large shiners or medium suckers for bait; I put a couple colored beads on above the hook. I also got a few nice crappies on a tip down (instead of the second tip up). Good luck! Try looking under Miller Dam lake for more current reports on this body of water.

I'm going up in 2 weeks with my mom, her friend and my siblings. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on where I should go. I have 10 tip ups so I will be setting them up. At what depth and are should I be looking for when I set the tip ups up. I'm 14 and love fishing but I'm just getting started with ice fishing. Also what type of minnow should I put on for bass and northerns. Thanks

I grew up in Medford and fished the mill pond as a kid with my brother. We used to catch 12-13 inch crappies just right above the dam gates. A friend of mine caught a 16 1/2 incher back then also. Dont know why they still wouldnt be in there. Doesnt get the pressure it used to when we were kids. We used to fish the creek and ponds that start behind the old chinese place and tire place south of town then runs south of the mink ranch across Hwy 13 then CTH O into the 2 ponds by the rail road bridge. Up to 38 inch northern caught. A few trout and northern in the black river in town. Then just south of town is the black river on gibson. Northern and walleye, same as little black river from Hwy 13 downstream.

JA you are not in the heart of lake country. Few lakes in the area so you may need to drive a few miles. Mondeaux and Miller Dam Flowages aren't too bad. Timm's Hill area North of Rib Lake you can try Bass, Hultman and Spirit Lakes. Fish off the dock at Bass Lake (Hill of Beans/ High Point Village) beautiful scenery and great little restaurant if the fishing is terrible. Doc
