Crawdaddy. Awaiting for photos. This will be interesting to say the least.
Catfishing (real fishing)
So, I am headed for Texas. We are in Kansas City for the night. Found out the Missouri state record catfish is alive and well swimming in the local Bass Pro Shop aquarium. Over 70 pounds. Insane! That is per the local guys. I have to see it to believe it. I thought the world record was less than that is. Betting they meant flathead, but I’ll go see it.
Sorry for the oversight... Ended up with 402 fun-fightin', flippin' channel cats! Was a royal BLAST! 2018? Only logical to shoot for the 500 mark, right? There's gonna be a whole lotta fish with sore mouths next year... (just sayin'...) ;-)
Thanks for reading the reports... Was fun sharing a passion of mine with other CAT CRAZY folks! :-)

MOON PHASE (96%)
Pretty sure this will be the final cattin' report from the Mad Catter this open water fishing season... It was fun, but now it's done! ;-p
Hit backwaters of the WI River north of Stevens Point, WI + below Lake DuBay Dam with Lake Linker CRAWDADDY and his fisher gal daughter! We fished various locations and I was fascinated by the sights and sounds of the Wisconsin River and its many tributaries... Gorgeous country! :-)
Drowned crawlers 'n cut bait (frozen sucker minnows) to no avail. Fairly comfortable early November morning, but the cats were not in the mood to entertain us... ;-( CRAWDADDY and child manage to catch and release a number of shorty walleye and some backwater panfish... Me? Targeting cats... SWISH!!! :-(
Got some "local intell" from CRAWDADDY including where I'll be "ice cattin'" with 'em in January! Yes... I will expand my Cattin' Obsession beyond open water! Sounds like a chillin' good time! ;-0
Soooo... until I again bather on and on and on and on about the BEST sport around (ummm... that WOULD be channel cat fishing... no duh), I bid you farewell for awhile fair Cat Folks one and all! Been a real HOOT and 7 HOLLERS fishing with some of you this season! :-)
Tight Lines, All!!!
Ralph (The Mad "Sad That the Open Water Cattin' Season is Coming to a Close" Catter!). :-(
Back for one of my final fishing reports if the open water fishing season... and here it goes...
Hit below Petenwell Dam by 6:10am... WELL before day break! Some other early risers had staked out the nice fishing platform below the dam, so instead of climbing on a rock shoreline to fish, I opted to head a touch downstream to a spot just north of the HWY 21 bridge. Soaked cut bait (sucker minnows), "stinks" 'n crawlers for 3 looong hours... Wasn't TOTALLY uncomfortable, but winter's comin'... (just sayin')...
Had 3 "bump bump" bites... no hook ups! :-(
Headed north toward Nekoosa... Stopped at a normally good little cattin' spot for an hour or so... Swish! Though I DID land a fun-fightin' mighty OAK LEAF (pictured)... NO SKUNK! (Ha! Ha!) ;-p
Tomorrow? Braving more pre-winter conditions and fishing with Stevens Point's Cat Man, CRAWDADDY! With some luck, he can help out this old dog to find a few cats before the snow flies! ;-0
Ralph (aka The Mad "Hopin' for a Cold Water Cat or Three" Catter) ;-)
Mine has to be a nice Sunday afternoon on the shores of the Wisconsin when we caught 16 fish. All of them were caught by kids. Seven different kids took turns setting the hook and enjoying the fight.
Finally spending some fishing time with Ralph “LITGUY” after several years of reading his posts was everything I thought it would be too.
But, none of that would have been possible without a chance meeting that truly changed my entire summer and perhaps my life. Meeting the mother of the chief catfish bait biologist for Berkley turned into something special. She ended up giving me a sample of the Power Punch he developed. We started using it in mid July and caught about 200 catfish using it the remainder of the summer. Can’t wait to see how it works under the ice.
OK... Question? Is it Catfishin' Obsessive to pop into a Dick's Sporting Goods Store during my Wedding Anniversary Weekend to buy a couple of sturdy, retractable shoreline fishing pole holders??? (pictured)...Yep, soon I'll be having a lovely dinner n' drinks at an eatery in Green Bay, WI with my dear wife of 27 years... but CATTIN' never is too far from my heart and mind! ;-0
Ralph (The Mad "'About to have a nice dinner... perhaps a CATFISH Dinner"... Catter!) ;-))
Howdy Cat Enthusiasts!
No Fall Cattin' for me 'til next weekend (if we don't have snowstorms by then!)... Gonna do some shoreline fishing around the Lake Petenwell area. If anybody wants to drown some crawlers, stinks and cut bait (maybe live sucker minnows), let me know. Planning on fishing both Saturday and Sunday AM's...
And here's a "Comment Starter:"
"What's your favorite Cattin' Memory" from this past open water Cattin' Season???"
I've got 2 memories...
a) Fishing with BUNCHES of fellow Lake Linkers: Mark, Marvin, Eric, Allen, Jim, etc. You guys taught me A LOT about Cattin' AND you put up with my ever present chattin' 'bout cattin'!!! :-)
b) Fishing with Milwaukee Marvin on the Fox River near Green Bay, WI in August! Absolutely mind-bending Cattin' session... Dozens of channel cats averaging around 8-12 pounds! Yes... I WILL FISH THERE AGAIN!!! :-0
And finally, pictured is a fishing gift my lovely wife just got me for our 27th Wedding Anniversary... like how she thinks! :-0
Tight Lines, All!
