Castle Rock Report

Monday 9/18:

Steve and Bernie booked a morning trip on "The Rock". Steve has a condo at Northern Bay and just wanted to go out for a few hours and catch some fish, but not keep. We soaked dead rods and jigged channel edges with fat-heads around timber in 16 - 18 feet of water. We boated and released 3 "keepers that were just 15 ", over 25 "shorties", 1 crappie, 1 perch, and a catfish.

Tuesday 9/19:

Tim from Delton booked a morning trip with friends Dave, and Mark. Fished channel edges again today, and finished dabbling for blue gills with 7' light action rod tipped with a 1/32 ounce jig and red-worm. finished with more than 20 "shorties, some at 14 7/8". 3 crappies, 2 perch, 17 blue gills. (kept 12)

Keep a tight line!!!

Jerry

Plenty of great fishing in front of us. Follow the link below to my web site and check the booking calendar for open dates.

MOON PHASE (3%)
Waning Crescent

Fished the rock Friday and Saturday, picked up the usual short walleyes, only had 1 over 15". We fished the river on Friday all the way to the dam, very little success in river picked up a few shorts and some sheephead at the dam. Worked a few areas on the way back down and stopped at fish lake. A few shorts and a small northern and a sm mouth. We end the day by buckhorn picking up a dozen crappie. Saturday started at buckhorn pickup some crappie and a few gills and moved to main lake structure picking up some short walleye. I was very surprised to not catch 1 striper the entire trip, that was a first for me.

Tight lines..... }<())))'>

Fished "the Rock" most of Saturday (9/16/17) with a friend. Since the weathered has cooled and the weekenders have mostly subsided, its time to get back out on the lake to fish. We pulled boards through the channels catching some nice Crappie and a bunch of Small-eyes. The south wind beat us up for the afternoon and fishing slowed. We decided to spend our last hour out of the wind and do some casting in a couple of my favorite bass spots. All fish released for another day.

MOON PHASE
Last Quarter

Quite a few people fish this lake but more so early in the year. This is a very popular boating/vacation destination so a lot of fisherman including myself dont like the boat traffic so we go elsewhere. This a good fishery once you figure it out. In the spring time, if I dont catch 100 walleyes in 3-4 hours it was a bad day but lucky if you get one over 15 inches. There is alot of upcoming fish in this system from what I believe to be from the slot that was put in effect. There is a lot of water to cover and fish are always on the move. Just remember where the fish are in the spring, does not neccesarily mean they are there in the summer. Bodies of water this size require a lot of moving around and quality electronics. Tactics are the same. Excellent Crappie fishing especially in the hard water months. Good luck

Just drift with the wind with slipbobber leech or minnow and you'll do just fine on walleye and sheephead like crazy.

Just wondering if any one fishes this lake other than guides hawking their wares? Last couple years, looks lie no one fishing but guides.
