Northside Mobil in Mauston has live bait year round. Right across the street from K Mart and Festival Foods
A couple questions I saw today and yesterday that I wish to weigh in on. This is for the east side questions. I love you west siders, but anyway...
JB sales at Z and 21 is good. Shiners are terrific, Rosie reds are marginal.
Big River Sports has terrific bait but it's a drive depending where you are coming from.
Ice is good on the east side. Some pretty big heaves this year that run from the south point at Carlsons beach and goes northwest almost to the island. BUT remember, this is a flowage with moving water under the ice. This effects the east side more than the west side. Last week I saw different thicknesses of ice from one spot to the next, within 50 yards.
Andy M and hoseslures1, you guys are pretty much heading out from the same area and you should be fine. It's a looong walk to the other side. You don't need to go that far. Get a map from Citgo. Find the channel and look for timber.
Please be careful and when in doubt, back out ??
Where is everyone getting live bait for Castle Rock? I called Castle Rock Dam as well as Hideaway bait shops and their phone is disconnected or they have message that they are closed.
Planning on walking out with the boy tomorrow from Castle Rock County Park and heading toward the other side (not too far from County Z road). Based on ice thickness folks are posting, assume there is no issues. Need to get four wheeler / snow mobile for next year..
Gobble, if you have to ask those questions please don't go that route. Watched a guy go through last year not far south of the island. Know what you're doing for the sake of your safety. Follow where other people are going if you don't know where you're going. Tight lines bud and stay safe.
