Appears the northern pike are getting active in Butte Des Morts as this weekend I caught three pike. Two trolling #7 Flicker Shad in the mud and one was caught jigging in the shallows for walleye.

My wife and I are looking for fishing the general Appleton area this weekend, especially for northern. We don't need huge ones, but some good action would be nice. I'm thinking Butte de Morts would be a good bet... do any of you have any suggestions along these lines?

Hello everyone - let's get some fish chatter / reports going on. Been out a couple times for a few hours and bite has been slow. Of course I am still learning how to fish from boat, but being out is all worth it. Caught a few the Sunday night between the switching of the winds - all good eating size 17" and 18" healthy fish. I was drifting and jigging with 1/4 ounce jigs - parrot combo with minnow or leach best. Wink

I troll and bobber fish usually use the tactic that is working best that day. Guys that are anchored have a right to that spot thats just common sense. Most guys pull up to a spot they have no idea where a troller just came thru or plans on fishing on his next pass. If your as great of a troller as you say you are why must you fish where everyone is anchored. Everyone needs to just treat another fisherman how they would want to be treated. Don't get me wrong it is frustrating when a guy drops anchor right in front of you when your trolling.

I anchor and troll, though I troll more. I have seen people watching me catching fish trolling and every time I go past they move to where I hook up, doesn't bother me too much since it's usually the tactic catching fish not the spot. I try my best to give people plenty of room because I don't like being crowded when I'm anchored. I usually troll rock structure if I can, generally I look for a vacant reef to start or one that is big enough that I won't be in someone's way. Sometimes it's inevitable if I'm fishing alone and fighting. A big fish I might loose track a bit but if it happens I'm sure to say sorry and 99% of the time people are understanding. Likewise if I see someone making a trolling pass and I know they are coming back through I'm not gonna go anchor in the way. Yes I know they don't own the water but I give respect and hope to get it back. I'm not hard up for fish and there is plenty of places I could go. If it's that big of a problem for you go where the people aren't. Sorry for the ramble just my $.02.

I have not seen anyone pick up anchor and go where a troller caught a fish but how selfish fishermen have become it does not surprise me. But the fact is an anchored fisherman needs a certain amount of feet - lets say 100 just as an example but now a troller wants a whole mile area. I don't have a problem with trollers except when they are rude. The same as when you don't want me running over your lines when I leave, I expect the same respect of trollers not running over my lines when I am anchored. If you feel this is an issue to argue about, then you have bigger issues. I just want respect of where my bobbers are. An even bigger issue is when a boat comes by with 6 boards out trying to go in and out. The guy on the point flat lines 1 rod and catches his limit all the time. Never comes anywhere near my bobbers. Respect each other...please?
