Just checking to see if anyone has been out Sand lately. Heading up in the next week for fishing. Any tips would be great!
Big Sand Lake, Vilas County
Last weekend the snow was too deep for me in Chevy Avalanche 4x4 to trust getting off a previous used two track. With the coolldd temps and wind, we decided to go to N. Twin to set up on leeward side of truck, instead of getting stuck attempting to get to "our spot" on BSL. Had several snowmobiles blow through our tipups (smashed 1) with hundreds of yards of clear ice all around us. WTF - Dick heads!!!!
Not sure if snow settled this week on BSL, hopefully you can get out.
MOON PHASE (69%)
81° - 88° F
76° - 80° F
Was up from Thursday until Monday. Hot, sunny and very little breeze most of the time. No change in weather pattern, blue bird skys and no chop made fishing for Musky difficult in this clear lake.
We did cast at least an hour and a half before and after moonrise, moonset, sunrise and sunset Had three followers the entire time. Only one of the three had any size to it, I would guess mid 40's but all she did was follow it, look at it and swim away during the figure 8. That one was 20 min after moon rise when the sun went behind the clouds. All followers came on bucktails. However we did trow everything but the kitchen sink. Top water, swim baits, stick baits, jerk baits, glide baits plastics...everything. Caught very few and saw very few northerns while casting, biggest was 22 in. most were 10-12 in. snakes.
Jigging center bar with a minnow, 12-15 FOW we caught large gills and very nice perch all CPR.
LMB caught while casting for Musky on bucktails and top water.
Our group caught well over 100 LMB working docks, bull rushes and lillies. All caught with Yum Dingers, color didnt matter the biggest ones were 18 and 19 in.
Hi. Looking at possibly purchasing a cabin on Big Sand. Unfortunately, have never fished it but read good reports. Can anyone provide info on the state of the Eurasian Milfoil? Is the south end boatable, or are weeds too thick? Can you access Long Lake through the channel at all times or does water levels come into play?
Appreciate any input. Thanks.
