Is there any ice reports from the slough? Never been down there but planning a trip next weekend just wanna know where anyone thinks there will be safe ice with the warm temps. Wanted to make it down below the fish float is that safe? Thanks and I'll post a report if I can get back there.

Yes the ice is fine but the railroad will only let you cross at a crossing and they have been watching. Black plain SUV with spotlight. You risk a tresspassing charge from the BNSF Railroad Police. They have been watching the slough south of town and the area by the high school. The areas you can fish have been hit hard as a result. Saving some fish in the other areas I guess.

Tried Wabasha, Slough, and Great River a little today. Saw lots of guys fishing around Alma off the road, too, but did not stop to check. Nada for me. Need a little melt to get action going I think. Did not see anyone else catch fish either. Oh, well. Surely a nice day.

No bait shop in Alma any more the quik trip there sells waxies and spikes that's about it. There is a nice sport shop in Mondovi if your coming through that way. It is just of of hwy 37 on the south side of town Bite Me Bait shop.

Does any one know if there is still a bait shop in alma? The sport shop listed on a prior post is no longer there.

I refer to them as the "Alma Ponds." They are on the north end of Alma; one on the north and south side of the Buffalo River. Northern one has a boat landing right on 35, and the southern one has a boat landing on the frontage road to the Alma Marina. They are technically inland WI fishing and you need a WI fishing license to fish them as they are on the WI side of the tracks.

Probably aren't "ponds" but more or less another backwater area. Most people fish the northern side of the buffalo river. Rarely see anyone fishing the southern side...but rarely make it down that way anymore.
