Plenty of ATVs bombing all over the place on weekends. To be honest the lake is very easy to walk right now, ATVs have created paths to just about any spot on the lake. You can walk to the far side of the lake in less than 15 minutes. Probably gonna be a rough week of fishing with this stupid weather....

Went to a Waukesha county lake at 7 am and the launch parking lot was full, so I went to Ash, which has a big lot at the launch. It was a zoo there. By mid morning, people were double parking and sticking their trucks anyplace they could fit em outside the normal spots. ATV's zooming all over the lake. Thought I was at Fox Lake for awhile.

Fishing report- was there from 8-5 by myself, drilled 30+ holes and jigged like crazy, with 2 tip downs out with small flatheads on. The bite was tough. ATV Nation had a jillion tip ups out, and nothing was happening for them. I had gone out to the 28-30 ft depths where the fish hang out this time of the year, drilled one hole, and found a big school of around 50 gills right off. Getting them to bite was another matter. Kept moving and trying different lures. Smaller perch kept robbing all my flatheads, but I did get two big gills and a crappie on the minnows. After 6 hrs I had iced 13 gills and one crappie. Then finally, at 2 pm, and after 30 holes, I dropped my transducer down and there was a giant christmas tree of fish down there. Put the camera down to see what was there. A couple crappie were at the top, and then around 200 gills from 10 to 25 ft down. Surprisingly, right on the bottom were several crappie hanging out with the perch. For a change, these fish actually wanted to feed.

So a poor day ended up being a good day, ended up catching 45 gills, 6 crappie and 5 perch. Kept 5 crappie and a perch for supper

Wolf1... I was down at the launch this past Saturday, the lake was froze over, but the launch was no good from runoff. I'm hoping to get back and take a look at it on Saturday again with hopes to fish on Sunday. Let me know if you have an ice report before then. There are Walleye in the lake, but not many of them. I've never personally caught one here, but the rumor is that if you do it will be a pig. Daytime gills can be hot. If you find the right spot daily limits are a strong possibility of 7"+ gills with a few crappies mixed in. The Gills shut off as the sun starts to set. Then your searching for Crappies. A LOT of Bass in this lake, but most seem to be in the 11"-14" range. I caught a lot of perch in the summertime, but none were of keeper size. Will have Northern action here and there.

I have not fished here before and was wondering if it is worth trying to target walleye ( tip ups )while jigging for some gills/crappies.is after dark better here for crappie /eyes? or is it more of just day time gills lake? I have read back a couple years on posts but they don't say allot about this.would like to try as soon as ice is safe.any info on this lake for all fish would be very helpful so I have a starting point. you can pm me if you want . I am always willing to swap/share knowledge of any of the lakes I know. thanks and stay safe. THE WOLF

I haven't fished Ashippun Lake in about 30 years. Three decades go by and the fish are still small if not smaller. Plenty of gills, perch, and large mouth - but not one fish worthy to take home. A lot of early morning surface feeding going on. Might come back in winter and give it a shot.

First time on Ashippun in my kayak. Got on the water about 8:30 AM and fished until noon. Some good bass action at the dropoffs, as well as in the pencil grass beds on the south shore, but the panfish were all really small. Tons of dink bluegill and perch off redworms.

Did not target northerns. Used texas rigged senkos for the bass. All fish still swimming.
