Lake Oahe is a large reservoir located on the Missouri River in South Dakota. It is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States and was created in 1958 by the construction of the Oahe Dam.

The lake spans approximately 231 miles (372 km) from Pierre, South Dakota, to Bismarck, North Dakota, and covers over 370,000 acres (1,500 square kilometers). The reservoir is used for a variety of purposes, including flood control, hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, and recreation.

Lake Oahe is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and camping. It is home to a variety of fish species, including walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass. There are also numerous campgrounds and recreational areas along the lake's shores, making it a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Because of the lake's size and the possibility of high winds, it's recommended that boats be at least an 18-foot deep "V" with 50 horsepower outboard.

The lands along Oahe are also known for exceptional hunting. Canadian geese, duck and sharp-tailed grouse are some of the most popular hunted species in this region.

In addition to its recreational uses, Lake Oahe also plays an important role in providing hydroelectric power to the region. The Oahe Dam, which created the reservoir, is one of several dams on the Missouri River that generate electricity for the surrounding areas.

Overall, Lake Oahe is an important resource for the region, providing both recreational opportunities and essential services such as flood control and power generation.
