Sorry for not checking this page the past couple weeks. The ice is still good but with the forecast it is going to go fast I am thinking.

I am not an ice guide, I just get out when I can. I wish you the best of luck. I am planning a run to Devils Lake for pike before I hit the road for 2 weeks talking catfish.

Brad-

I'm heading up to Dion lake the first weekend of March I'm just wondering if this is worth the drive for as it's 7.5 hours for me. Any advice is appreciated and if you guide up near St John's nd I would gladly pay for some tips on where to go. Thanks

Went back to the same lake from the past report. This time went to the other end of the lake. Started out in a proven 19 foot hole. After about 10 holes got on some decent gills for a bit. The bite died off so went searching. Found a very small hole (about the size of a truck) was on fish immediately but they were walleyes and not bluegills. Caught a few eyes then worked a bunch of pre-drilled holes to no avail. The fish were just off this trip.

Best bait for the fish I did catch was a Chekai jig from Custom Jigs and Spins.

Ventured back to my favorite lake. It was really sunny and really cold with no snow on the ice. It took a while to find the fish and once found there were lots. Many many follows but just not many takers. Tried many different jigs or styles of jigs and just could not get the good bite put together before it was time to go.

Back out later today.

Fished a lake in Northern ND with great success on bluegill. 15' of water just off a weed break was the best location. Many quality gills. Early in the afternoon a very small flutter jig with wax worm was the ticket and near sunset the fish wanted a Custom Jigs and Spins tungsten with spikes. Once they set in for that last hour of light it was game on with 4-6 fish on the screen at all times.

Ice conditions are great in the west and lots of snow on the ice in the central.
