The lake is "on"!!

The bite has been very good at Devils Lake, ND this past week! Walleyes are being caught as shallow as 5 ft and as deep as 28ft. We are mainly pulling live bait with bottom bouncers and spinners. Hammered gold, silver, pink, and purple have been very good colors, we are using a third of a crawler go best results. Slip bobber fishing and vertical jigging has also been fantastic, seems like the top of humps, points, and the edges of the weed lines have produced the best action. Some of our guides are also trolling cranks in 10-16 ft and doing well. Pike fishing has slowed a bit; however, we have caught a few dandies while fishing for walleyes. Bass have been more spotty, but it seems like the rip rap shorelines are holding the majority of bass. Good luck to all, This is certainly a time to get out with friends and family and enjoy some great fishing!!

MOON PHASE
Full Moon

ICE DEPTH
20 inches
We fished a week a go (2/11 thru 2/14) and the bite was tough. We fished with the perch patrol and it was definitely worth it. Our guide definitely worked for us to find the best bite. 2/11 was slow until about 3:45 when a hot school came through and we caught 30 in 15 mins. 2/12 was terrible for the first part of our day then we moved to a brush patch and hammered the jumbos. 2/13 we went walleye fishing in the morning and we did o.k. then went perch fishing and the bite shut off when the clouds came in. After that we went walleye fishing and hammered em for about an hour and a half. 2/14 was again . . . terrible until about 10:00 when we found the perch in 40 fow but we left since the size was poor and was right back on the perch in the brush. Moral of this report is that the bite was very light than the perch and the less of the motion the better, even just letting the rod lay in your lap. St Croix Legend Ice series are truly the reason for some of those light biting fish. Gold and firetiger tungsten loaded with waxies for perch.

Here is a video to go along with this. Thanks. S.V.

MOON PHASE (22%)
Waxing Crescent

CONDITIONS
Partly Sunny

AIR TEMP
16° - 20° F
Fished out there 1-5 Feb. Had decent luck with the perch with best day of 79 kept with four guys. Other two days were just OK with about 35 each day. Wanted to fish eyes but guide seemed to find reasons not to. We fished far east end of the lake. Had to drive about 4 or 5 miles out on HW 2 to get there. We fished with small tungsten jigs tipped with waxies and minnow heads. Fished in about 25 feet of water. There is a bait shop next to the Sleep Inn motel on HW2 in Devils Lake and the guy there is more than happy to give directions and advice. By the way the Sleep Inn is the best motel I have ever stayed at with a great breakfast and unbelievable staff. The manager is also a person with great fishing knowledge and they have a great fish cleaning room. I will say there were quite a few fishing without a guide at the motel and the had just as good of luck as us with many catching nice eyes in addition to perch. If you want a good steak out there go to the Ranch right in town.

Hi! I will be coming out here for the first time in a few weeks, we are going to go without a guide and try to find some fish. Staying in Devils Lake, near Creel Bay. Hoping some one can provide some tips or places to try/start in our search for fish. Targeting Perch, Walleyes and Pike.PM is on. Thanks in advance!

MOON PHASE (80%)
Waning Gibbous
Hello anglers!

Looks like the next few days are going to bring us some of the warmest weather that we’ve seen this season. The barometric pressure is hovering around 30.00 in and slightly climbing. Look for these fish to be on a lighter bite. Walleyes and perch may move to deeper water with the pressure rising. With the cloud cover we will see the next few days, fishing with a brighter or a flashy lure might help attract fish. Anglers are still having success using buckshots, puppet minnows/jigging raps, and tungsten jigs. Lures are being tipped with minnow heads, wax worms, or spikes. Don’t be afraid to use 2 or 3 wax worms at a time when using these smaller baits. Changing presentation is key when dealing with tough fish. Try to downsize or use a dangle chain if you are marking without receiving a bite.

Ice Conditions:

We are seeing an average of 14 inches of ice on most parts of the lake. We have also found up to 20 inches in areas of Creel, Walford, and Budweiser. As low at 8 inches have been reported in areas of the Flats. Slush pockets remain scattered throughout the lake system. We still have a pressure ridge at the mouth of Creel running from Rocky Point towards Military Point. Lake Irvine and Alice have an average of 16 inches of ice throughout.

Be Safe! Stay Warm! Have Fun!
