This has been my first year boating on Muscoot out of boat area #8. I wasn't able to get the boat certified until May. Although it's a New York reservoir the lake is very weedy and fairly murky. Summer bass fishing was very good. The bass were hanging out around the grass mats in the middle of coves. Caught plenty up to 3 pounds on my tried and true tiny torpedos. In early fall the fish moved into shallow water with rocky bottoms and around fallen trees and still hit the torpedos hard - just fewer fish. I tried crank baits, jerk baits, weedless frogs, spinners, buzz baits and jigs, but no interest. Now that it's October the fish are harder to find but as of Sunday 10/18/20 they're still in just a few feet of clear water over rocks and sediment close to shore and still hitting torpedos. Pickerel hit them, too. I finally did catch one bass I saw in open water chasing shad using a crank bait. These were all largemouths. I caught a few smallmouths from the shore by boat areas #1 and #4 during 2018 and 2019 and early this spring, again on torpedos. The only things I've caught on jerk baits were mid-sized yellow perch. To be really honest, you've got to work a lot of shoreline to find the schools this time of year. I'm looking forward to my first spring boating on the lake. Should be fun. Update. Today is 10/24/20. Caught 7 largemouths today and missed several more. Most were small but there were 2 pound and a half sized and one was 6 pounds and 24 inches. The biggest I've caught on the lake. Used a tiny torpedo in about 10 feet of water over a rocky bottom. A very good morning. Weather cloudy, 2 mph wind, 61 degrees. Wish I could post a picture here.
