What aquatic invasive species are found in Big Marine Lake?
There are some aquatic invasive species found in Big Marine Lake including Eurasian watermilfoil.

Join us in the fight to prevent the spread of invasive species These sneaky creatures can hitch a ride on boats, clinging onto propellers, anchor lines, and trailers. They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

Big Marine Lake is 1,756 acres in size with 1,152 acres of littoral area and a maximum depth of 60 feet. This Washington County lake has been assigned to lake class 24 and provides anglers a solid option for targeting panfish, Walleye, Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike. Walleye and Largemouth Bass are the primary species of management with Northern Pike and Bluegill being the secondary species managed. Current stocking of Walleyes is at a rate of 1.0 pound/littoral acre in even numbered years. Walleyes were sampled above the median level for abundance and averaged 20.3 inches and 3.2 pounds. Approximately 56% of the Walleye sampled were at or above 20" in total length. Due to the lake's clarity, targeting Walleye at night or in low-light conditions could produce more success for anglers. Northern Pike were sampled at a high abundance and averaged 17.5 inches and 1.1 pounds. Largemouth Bass abundance has increased from previous years and averaged just over 13 inches in length for bass sampled in gill nets. Electrofishing abundance has also increased to approximately 35 bass per hour captured. Bluegill were sampled at an abundance lower than the median level for trap nets and averaged 5.4 inches in total length. Approximately 16% of Bluegill sampled were at or above 7 inches. Black Crappie were also sampled at an abundance lower than the median level for trap nets and gill nets. The largest Black Crappie sampled was 11.8 inches in total length. Black Crappie growth is slow compared to statewide averages with 10-11 inch fish ranging in age from 7 years up to 12 years old. Black Bullheads, Brown Bullheads and Yellow Bullheads were sampled in both gears, as were Golden Shiners and Yellow Perch.

Large lake with a large variety of structure. People use the lake for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, tubing and an occasional float plane. There is plenty of fish to be had throughout the lake.

Aug.7-8, 2015: Good, Clean Lake. Fished the afternoon on Friday and early morning on Saturday. Launched from the Vets Camp. Fished South side by the mouth and fished at the point with tight contour lines. Tons of action with small pikes trolling and plenty of Large Mouth Bass jigging. The action was there. Biggest LMB was a little over 3 pounds. Most of the boaters were jigging for crappies and sunnies. Tried Muskie fishing but nothing on the muskie lures. Lots of people skiing and tubing. Big lake and didn't have a chance to cover the whole lake.

This lake is a good size with lots of shoreline structure and deep pockets. You could probably fish here for years and not hit all of the opportune spots. It is also a home for skiers and a common lake for float plane touch-and-goes.
