What aquatic invasive species are found in Eagle Lake?
There are some aquatic invasive species found in Eagle Lake including zebra mussel.

Join us in the fight to prevent the spread of invasive species These sneaky creatures can hitch a ride on boats, clinging onto propellers, anchor lines, and trailers. They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

Eagle Lake is an 845-acre mesotrophic (moderately fertile) lake located in south-central Otter Tail County approximately eight miles south of Battle Lake, MN. Eagle Lake is located within the Pomme de Terre River Watershed; however, there are no inlets or outlets connected to the lake. The immediate watershed is composed of agricultural land interspersed with hardwood woodlots. The secchi disk reading during the 2014 lake survey was 17.0 feet. Previous secchi disk readings have ranged from 14.8 to 25.2 feet.
The majority of the shoreline of Eagle Lake has been extensively developed. Homes and cabins surround the entire shoreline of the lake. A township owned concrete public access is located in a park along the south shoreline. A public swimming beach is also located in the park. The shoal water substrates consist of sand and gravel. There is no emergent vegetation present in Eagle Lake.
Eagle Lake can be ecologically classified as a bass-panfish type of lake and this is reflected in the assemblage of the fish community. Largemouth Bass, Walleye, and Bluegill are the dominant fish species present in Eagle Lake.
Catch data from recent assessments indicate that a high-density Largemouth Bass population exists. Age data indicate that reproduction is consistently good. Bass ranged in length from 7.9 to 17.9 inches with an average length and weight of 12.4 inches and 1.1 pounds. Bass attain an average length of 13.9 inches at five years of age.
Bluegill abundance has historically been high. Thirty-five percent of the Bluegills were 7.0 inches or greater in length. Bluegills attain an average length of 7.4 inches at six years of age.
The Walleye test-net catch rate was the highest recorded for this lake. Walleyes ranged in length from 9.3 to 21.7 inches with an average length and weight of 14.8 inches and 1.1 pounds. Walleyes attain an average length of 15.4 inches at four years of age.
Anglers can maintain the quality of fishing by practicing selective harvest. Selective harvest encourages the release of medium to large-size fish while allowing the harvest of the more abundant smaller fish for table fare. Releasing the medium to large fish will ensure that the lake will have enough spawning age fish on an annual basis and will provide anglers with opportunities to catch more large fish in the future.
