What aquatic invasive species are found in North Twin Lake?
There are some aquatic invasive species found in North Twin Lake including zebra mussel.

Join us in the fight to prevent the spread of invasive species These sneaky creatures can hitch a ride on boats, clinging onto propellers, anchor lines, and trailers. They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

North Twin is a relatively shallow (16-ft maximum depth), 901-acre, productive lake located in southeast Mahnomen County. The lake's productivity is evident in the relatively fast growth rates of many of the fish species in this lake.

Naturally reproducing populations of Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Black Crappie, bullhead, White Sucker, Tullibee, and others are found within this lake. Although some Walleye natural reproduction has been reported, the Walleye fishery is generally sustained by stocking. Walleyes have been regularly stocked by the White Earth Natural Resources Department since 1990. Although abundance is currently low, the average size of Walleye is a comparatively large at 3.6 pounds. It is likely that predation and competition from the currently high Northern Pike population is having a negative impact on Walleye abundance.

Anglers are encouraged to harvest the abundant smaller pike for eating and release those over 24 inches. Larger pike tend to help balance the population by feeding on smaller ones.

Bluegills have the potential to reach large sizes in North Twin. While large Bluegills (over 8.0 inches) are not common, they can still be found in this lake.
