What aquatic invasive species are found in Bryant Lake?
There are some aquatic invasive species found in Bryant Lake including Eurasian watermilfoil, brittle naiad and zebra mussel.

Join us in the fight to prevent the spread of invasive species These sneaky creatures can hitch a ride on boats, clinging onto propellers, anchor lines, and trailers. They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

Bryant Lake is a 161-acre lake located in Eden Prairie. It is part of the Three Rivers Parks system and they maintain a concrete ramp on the NE shore within the park. Bryant Lake offers a diverse sport fish community composed of northern pike, largemouth bass, walleye, tiger muskellunge, and panfish. Tiger muskellunge stocking began in 1985, and are stocked on odd numbered years. Walleye were stocked for the first time in 2004, and are stocked every other year.

Northern pike were sampled in high abundance, at a rate of 10.0 fish per gill net. This is a noticeable increase from the abundance of northern pike in past years. During the previous 4 surveys (1989 2006), catch rate of northern pike has ranged between 0.5 and 3.5 fish per gill net. Northern pike were of good size; average length and weight of the sampled fish was 23.6 inches and 3.30 lbs. Forty-two percent of the fish were greater than 24 inches in length, and 10% were greater than 28 inches. The largest northern pike measured 35.8 inches in length. By age three, northern pike attained an average length of 20.9 inches, and by age 6 they had attained an average length of 29.4 inches.

Spring electrofishing targeted the largemouth bass population. Thirty-three fish were sampled, at a rate of 22.7 fish per hour of on-time. The average length and weight of fish was 12 inches and 1.29 pounds. Fifty-five percent of bass sampled were greater than 12 inches in length and the largest bass measured 18.4 inches in length. By age 5, bass had reached an average length of 11.8 inches, and by age 7, they had reached an average length of 15.7 inches.

Walleye were sampled in higher than average abundance for this type of lake. The average walleye weighed 2.08 pounds and measured 17.5 inches in length. Seventy-four percent of sampled walleye measured more than 15 inches in length, with the largest fish measuring 24.3 inches. The majority of sampled walleye were 4 years old, and originated from a fingerling stocking in 2008.

Six tiger muskellunge were sampled during the summer population assessment, 2 in gill nets and 4 in trap nets. Their lengths ranged between 12.7 and 32.4 inches. Smaller fish were aged 1 and 3 years, while the two larger fish were aged 5 and 8 years. The previous survey, in 2006, returned similar results, suggesting a stable population.

Twenty black crappie were sampled by gill nets and trap nets. The fish averaged 5.9 inches in length, with the largest fish measuring 7.3 inches.

Bluegill were present in above average numbers for this lake, with 35% of the fish sampled exceeding 6.0 inches, compared to 55% during the 2006 survey. Only 1% of the sampled bluegill measured 7 inches or greater in length. There is a very strong 2009, age-3 year class; 43% of the trap net catch came from this age group.

Yellow perch abundance has declined over the years. During the previous survey, in 2006, yellow perch were caught at a rate of 21.8 fish per gill net. During the survey of 2012, yellow perch were caught at a rate of 1.3 fish per gill net. Average length of perch was 6.3 inches, and the largest perch measured 7.4 inches.
