History & Status of the Fishery
Wood Park Pond is located in Wood Park in the City of Burnsville. The lake is small (9 acres), but deep for its size - most of it is 13 to 14 feet deep and it does not regularly winter kill. Carry-in access of canoes is possible, but the lake is a fair distance from the parking lot. Gasoline motors are not permitted, though electric motors are. Shore fishing is available at several locations and also at the fishing pier located on the north side of the lake.
Yellow perch are not very abundant in Wood Park, but they have moderate average size at 7.32 inches. Black crappies were also found in low abundance, average length was a little over 6 inches. Bluegills are abundant and small, with an average size of 5.3 inches. Black bullhead were found in very high abundance with over 1,700 found in the sampling gear but they too have a relatively small average size of 5.9 inches. Largemouth bass were not sampled in 2012 but are present in the lake. Wood Park has been stocked with various combinations of fry, fingerlings and adult walleye since 2005. No walleye were found however during this survey.
