What aquatic invasive species are found in Bass Lake?
There are some aquatic invasive species found in Bass Lake including zebra mussel.

Join us in the fight to prevent the spread of invasive species These sneaky creatures can hitch a ride on boats, clinging onto propellers, anchor lines, and trailers. They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

Bass Lake is a 116 acre lake located about 5 miles east of Jenkins. The lake is part of a chain of lakes characterized as having hard water, low fertility, and very good water clarity. The maximum depth is approximately 47 feet and about 58% of the lake is less than 15 feet deep.
Northern pike, the lakes primary game fish species, were sampled at a rate of 6.0 per gill net. This was higher than the three previous fish surveys performed on the lake. Aging identified several year classes and found growth of pike to be good. Fish between 14.0 to 32.9 inches were captured and average size was 22.7" and 3.1 pounds.

Largemouth bass, another important game fish species for this lake, were captured at a rate of 1.0 per gill net and 0.4 per trap net. These values are within the expected range for this type of lake, and are similar to catches from previous surveys. Growth of bass was average.

Popular panfish species sampled during the survey include bluegill and black crappie. The bluegill catch of 25.0 per trap net was average compared to similar lakes and previous surveys, but growth was slow with only 7% measuring over seven inches long. Black crappie were captured in high numbers in gill nets and low numbers in trap nets. Fish averaged 8.5" and growth was average.

Additional sampling for nearshore fish was also conducted using shoreline seining and backpack electrofishing. Least Darter, a species of special concern in Minnesota, was collected along with a variety of other darter, shiner, and minnow species. Combining all methods, the 2010 survey identified 22 fish species in the lake.
