History & Status of the Fishery

Barbour Lake can only be accessed by boat through a channel from Smith Lake. The two most abundant species netted were bluegill and tullibee (cisco). Bluegill were captured at the rate of 25.8/net. Average length was only 5.2" and only 6% were 7" or longer. The tullibee (cisco) average length was 11.3".

Other fish species sampled included black crappie, bowfin (dogfish), green sunfish, hybrid sunfish, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow bullhead, and yellow perch. Various minnow species were also captured while backpack electrofishing, including central mudminnows and a pugnose shiner.
