History & Status of the Fishery

FISH POPULATION IS DOMINATED BY BULLHEADS AND YELLOW PERCH. GILLNET INDEX FOR BULLHEAD WAS WELL ABOVE STATE AND LOCAL MEDIANS AND FISH WERE OF SMALL SIZE (5.7 INCHES). GILLNET INDICES FOR NORTHERN PIKE, WHITE SUCKER, AND ROCK BASS WERE ALSO WELL ABOVE STATE AND LOCAL MEDIANS. WALLEYE, BLUEGILL AND BLACK CRAPPIE ARE PRESENT BUT IN RELATIVELY LOW NUMBERS. GILLNET CATCH OF YELLOW PERCH WAS NEAR LOCAL MEAN AND FISH WERE MOSTLY LESS THAN 8 INCHES IN LENGTH. NATURAL REPRODUCTION OF SPECIES OTHER THAN BULLHEAD APPEARED POOR IN 1987, ALTHOUGH ABUNDANCE OF ADULT BULLHEADS IN 1/4 INCH TRAPNETS MAY HAVE MASKED NUMBERS OF YOY CAUGHT.
