But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

As a fishery goes, nothing really stands out in Washburn Lake. Most fish species were caught in average numbers, with enough edible sized fish and trophies to keep things interesting.

Panfish looks like the best bet for a fun outing. Black crappie numbers were average to high, with an average size of 8.3" and 65% measuring 8" or larger. Blue gill numbers were average (7.1/net), with an average length of 6.7" and 42% measuring 7" or larger.

Gamefish numbers were mixed. Walleye numbers were below average at 2.4/net. Average size was 16.6" and 72% were 12" or larger. Walleye are currently stocked as fryling size (1-2 inches long) in even numbered years. An encouraging thing to note is that 56% percent of all aged fish came from non-stocking years, including 28% from 2013; these fish averaged 11".

Northern pike numbers were average (4.3/net). With an average length of 18.3" and only 5% measuring 24" or larger, they don't offer much of a fishery. Fish up to 32.6" were captured however.

Washburn has both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Catch rates were average and some good size fish were observed. Largemouth up to 17.1" and smallmouth up to 18.2" were captured.
