They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

Ray is a small 136 acre lake that can be accessed through a channel from Upper Gull Lake. During the summer, much of the lake is choked with weeds and is inaccessible. Early season may provide fishing opportunities for bluegill which were caught in average numbers (29.4/net). Average size was 6.6" and 36% of the fish were at least 7" long. Northern pike were the one other species that show promise for anglers. Caught at a rate of 5.7/net, the average length was 23.5" and 35% were 24" or larger. Other fish caught in average numbers were bowfin (dogfish), pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, rock bass, and yellow bullhead. Black bullhead, brown bullhead, black crappie, green sunfish, hybrid sunfish, yellow perch, walleye, and white sucker were also captured in low numbers.

Ray is designated as AIS (aquatic invasive species) infested waters because of zebra mussels in Gull Lake. Lake users should inspect and remove any aquatic plants and animals from their watercraft and trailers as well as pull the plug and drain all water from the watercraft, including bilges, livewells and baitwells.
