What aquatic invasive species are found in Lotus Lake?
There are some aquatic invasive species found in Lotus Lake including brittle naiad, Eurasian watermilfoil and zebra mussel.

Join us in the fight to prevent the spread of invasive species These sneaky creatures can hitch a ride on boats, clinging onto propellers, anchor lines, and trailers. They can even survive in hidden places like bilge water and ballast tanks, or disguise themselves in dirt and sand that sticks to nets, buckets, anchors, and waders. But don't worry, we have the power to stop them in their tracks with just a few simple steps. So let's do our part and protect our waters from these unwanted invaders.

History & Status of the Fishery

Lotus is a 246-acre, Class 24 lake located in Chanhassen in Carver County. It is primarily managed for Walleye and Largemouth Bass. A Standard Survey was conducted during mid-July 2015 to assess the gamefish populations in the lake.

Walleye abundance was moderately high; the catch rate of 6.2 fish per gill net was between the median and 75th percentile for this Lake Class. Twenty-nine percent of the fish exceeded 15 inches, and 6 percent exceeded 20 inches. Mean length and weight in gill nets were 15.1 inches and 1.24 lbs, with the largest fish measuring 24.5 inches.

Bluegill were moderately abundant in 2015; the catch rate of 44.0 fish per trap net was between the median and 75th percentile for this Lake Class. Ninety-three percent of the fish were 6 inches or greater, and 16 percent were 7 inches or greater. The largest measured- from all sampling-was 7.8 inches. Mean length and weight were 6.6 inches and 0.22 lbs.

An abundance of small-sized Black Crappie were caught in the gill nets. The catch rate of 36.8 fish per net is more than double the 75th percentile for this Lake Class. The average size of fish was 4.6 inches and 0.05 pounds; 96 percent of the fish were smaller than 5 inches. The largest gill netted Black Crappie was 8.8 inches.

Yellow Perch abundance appears to be decreasing, from a high of 181 fish per gill net in 1999 to a low of 1.4 fish per gill net in the 2015 assessment. Compared to other Class 24 lakes, 1.4 fish per gill net is considered low (below the first quartile). Mean size (0.14 lbs) has improved over the previous assessments; however it is average (near to the median of 0.13 lbs) compared to other Class 24 lakes. Yellow Perch were between 6 and 8.2 inches, averaging 7.2 inches.

Similar to previous assessments, Northern Pike abundance was low. The catch rate of 1.4 fish per gill net was below the first quartile for this Lake Class. The fish tended to be large; average size was 25.1 inches and 4.11 pounds. The largest Northern Pike was 34.1 inches and 9.1 pounds.

Other fishes sampled in low abundance were Brown Bullhead, Common Carp, Golden Shiner, Largemouth Bass, Pumpkinseed, and Yellow Bullhead.
