History & Status of the Fishery

Linwood Lake is a 572-acre, class 38 lake located in northeastern Anoka County. Linwood Lake is primarily managed for Walleye and Bluegill are a secondary management species. The lake is currently stocked with fall Walleye fingerlings at a rate of 2lbs of fingerlings/littoral acre (950lbs) every other year on even years.

Walleyes were sampled at a rate of 0.29 fish/gillnet, which is below the 1st quartile for class 38 lakes. This was the lowest CPUE for Walleye since 1985 when no Walleyes were sampled. Growth was good with Walleye reaching 14 inches by age-3, and 16 inches by age-5. The average Walleye sampled in 2015 was 13.4 inches with fish up to 16 inches. Northern Pike were sampled at a rate of 3.57 fish/gillnet, which is between the 1st and 2nd quartiles for class 38 lakes. The average size Northern Pike sampled in the 2015 survey was 22.84 inches long with fish up to 29.69 inches.

Bluegill abundance was between the 1st and 2nd quartiles in trap nets (6.63 fish/net), and the average size Bluegill sampled in trap nets was 6 inches, with fish over 8 inches present. While Bluegill abundance is down from recent surveys, size structure appears to be improving.
