MOON PHASE
Full Moon

Caught countless walleyes, but couldn't get anything even close to trophy fish.  Except for a run-in with a big +/-40" pike that bit a small walleye being reeled in.  It let go at boat side so it did not get landed.  The best part of the trip was the big slab crappies we caught.  What a treat to catch giant crappies in Canada.  Cant wait until next year.. Heading up here this weekend and fishing on the Canada side.  Im thinking fish are probably deeper in teh 20 +/- fow.  We will probably target mid lake humps and other structure and fish the sides..

Decided to do something different and headed to Rainy Lake to try and catch some walleyes. Try is the key word. We caught a bunch of small walleyes under 12". We we're pulling spinners and slow death. Also pulled crankbaits. I wasn't impressed this time around.

Fished the Canada side , as well as the Minnesota side . Walleye bite was still more active on the Canada side . Caught good fish and numbers  on mains lake points on the windy side with 1/8 th oz jigs and plastics . Swim baits worked well too !

As info , Voyageuer National Park now charges for campsites which now have to be reserved , and cost $20 per nite with a $10 reservation fee . No inflation or tax increases either right ?

Reporting from my houseboat trip 7/4-7/11. It sure was a blast for our first ever trip. Lots of nice sized slot walleyes (biggest 24") but had a bit of trouble finding eater sized fish. We worked 18-24 feet of water generally with bouncers working the best. Smallies and northern were good in Saginaw Bay but not much for walleye in most of it. Fish definitely were in a transition period where you would find some in 12-16 feet too. The fish should start piling up on the reefs and deeper shorelines the closer to August we get. Suspending minnow baits worked well for all species as well working shorelines.

Rainy is a huge body of water with a huge protected slot to ensure its stability into the future. Don't be afraid to share your fishing stories with as many boats that are on this water!

Hi,

Taking family on houseboat to Rainy Lake in 3 weeks. (Late July) I am a competent fisherman, though by no means an expert. I plan on targeting multi species. I have a Lund with adequate electronics (2 depth finders, GPS, no sidefinder) and a kicker. Here's my plan of attack. If anyone can offer any specifics or corrections or improvements to my plan please let me know your thoughts. any help would be appreciated.

Waldos:

Backtroll windy shorelines with either Lindy rigs or bottom bouncers with leeches...copper or chartreuse blades.

Bronzebacks:

Look for suspended fish on rocky main lake points throw deep running neutrally boyant crankbaits or throw jig and pig crawfish imitators. Bright or copper colored crankbaits. Jig and twistertails...? Topwater?

Gators:

Look for submerged cabbage and throw spinnerbaints...white with Bronze blades?

Troll mainlake shorelines with big spoons or rapalas.

Any help would be appreciated!
