Was out here last Saturday with my canoe. There was also a bass tournament being held as they luanched right when I arrived (6:00-6:30am). I really want to see how the winners did.
Morning bite was hot as I caught keeper 3 keep 15's right away literally back to back. After I moved away from that area, it slowed down and I got caught up with pikes (big pike was >25inches off white spinner bait). Right before mid-day I was fishing in island lake and landed another smaller bass about 14 inches and left back out to the main lake, where I saw most of the competing anglers drop-shotting. Spoke to one guy and he said he was having a tough day (no fishes mentioned). I rowed past a boat with 2 guys jigging and drop shotting too and they were catching fish cast after cast during the time I rowed by, but not sure if it was Largemouth or pan fish because they were tossing every catch back into the water (maybe too small).
I finally called it day at about 1pm. the lower half of the river (which was the part I fished) was murky throughout, I think if I found cleaner areas with healthier vegetation I would've continued to have success after the morning bite. I happen to spot a decent bass in the clearer area I just described getting spooked by me (Had to be pushing 4 lbs). I'll be back to see what the fall bite holds and see if I can land a monster 5 lber.
