Its been a pretty consistent season for us on Lake St. Clair and depending on weather conditions, the lake has been fishing very well. For the last few weeks, its been muskie and smallmouth bass. We are averaging 10 muskies a trip these days but had a banner day last Saturday landing over 20 muskies. Weather conditions were great with a nice chop and good water color. We are running mostly 6" wooden baits in natural colors, but also have a couple of Lapper Lures and Spanky bucktails in the mix. Targeting deeper water depths form 15-19fow, we are running our baits close to 10ft down with 2-5oz inline weights. The Smallmouth bass is the other hot bite, although some days, depending on the weather it can be a bit more difficult to land 20 fish. The catc h numbers are down a bit and the fish seem to be less concentrated so you have to work hard at it. Focusing on water depths of 12-16fow water seem to be more productive for myself. Yellow perch and walleye catches are starting to pick up a bit as the dog days of summer start to roll out. Trolling crawler harnesses with inline boards just outside of the dumping groun ds seem most productive.
