The salmon will run up the river, a lot of people will fish right underneath the highway bridge and dam. They haven't started running yet, but should be soon

There haven't been any postings (or stockings below the first dam ??) for years on this body of water. Facilities for launching are there and reports on the Bay can be found but nothing on the river ...

I'm curious ... in the fall ... are there any transient salmon or trout using this water from the hydro to the lake ...

Enlighten me ... PLEASE !!!!!

Hey Greenhead check out smelt in Ashland on the Wisconsin reports. Sounds like they're still coming in over there

Sorry to say the smelt are a thing of the past. Virtually no local runs anymore.

just a question was wondering if you guys still get a good smelt run up here i used to come up here with my dad and uncles but last time we were up was in the mid 80's now that my dad has passed on my boys have been asking questions about pics and the smelt nets in the garage so just looking for some of the old spots if they are still running to see if i can take my son's to experience some of the fun from the past

Everything is messed up this year because they are doing repair work on the big floodgate right now. Normally they would be running two or three of the turbines. That concentrates the fish right at the dam, below the fishing platform. The water is 4 to 6 feet deep there, and is much better for drifting spawn or running crankbaits. The repair work is why they have opened a couple of the smaller gates. That puts all the current on the other side of the river where its much shallower. It's almost too shallow to run cranks and the current slows rapidly making it difficult to drift spawn effectively. You can see and walk up on fish pretty easily right now. The "dam" snaggers (pun intended,) have been having a field day.

The run usually lasts until the beginning of November. With the average size of the fish out in the lake being so much better than last year, I was looking forward to a good run of fish this fall. Hope things switch back to normal soon. There's still plenty of good fishing to be had down there. My dad caught a nice silver hen off the mouth of the river trolling harnesses over the weekend, so there are still some fresh fish waiting to head upstream.

Went down below the dam tonight and saw a few salmon not a whole lot biting though, had one on for a few seconds. They are spilling some water, but levels are LOW!!, does anybody know if it gets better or if/did they run heavy in this river? any info would be great thanks
