Lake Rathbun is an excellent crappie lake. May fishing every year produces many 11 to 13 inch white crappie. Most of our tournament fishermen drift for suspended crappie. Many are also caught in the various coves.

Wow huge lake I guess that is why they call it Iowa's ocean. Well they got it right. We went up for the fall crappie and caught them. I like this lake alot because of all the extreme conditions you can encounter. At one end of the lake it is mud shoreline with no cover the other shore line 11 miles away you can explore the vast amount of flooded timber. whatever tickles your fancy you can find it on Rathbun.If you are hard up to catch a fish just hang out by the marinas and fish the docks guaranteed to catch fish no matter what specie.
