MOON PHASE (79%)
Waxing Gibbous
Born2fish Olearys is a good place to go. Micks and cecils work well. Moon glos with waxworms or ratfinkies with a waxworm. White or purple are good colors. Orange or green work at times also Above the dam in sunfish is good fishing but you need to.fish tje dredge cuts that are out a halfile or more. Withought a locator you would have to look for old holes to know where the cuts are. Big perch are there but you have to keep loving until you find them There is aap at the ramp going into sunfish that may show the dradge cuts. Any of the harbors holld good fish you just cant stand on or use the docks. Hawthorne,Schmidt and the Ice harbor. Good thing about the harbors amd olearys is they are easier to fish without a vexilar. Stop at the Bait Shack and they will have good info for you. Good luck.

i have not ice fished the Mississippi river to much. so I have a few questions. im coming into Dubuque this Wednesday and looking for a decent spot to go out. I have fished O'Leary (I believe that's what its called) next to the dam. how is it there and do people fish above there. driving past it looks like on top there are lily pad's. also if I could get what people are using to better my chances. I don't have a fish finder so im going out blind any information would be great.

Thank you

Back out the ice Tuesday, the weather was cold, 6 degrees and windy. Fished the Lilly pad area's in the Back waters. Started fishing in 4-5 ft water, caught 1 nice crappie right away and a few small blue gills, pretty slow. So we started drilling holes along Lilly pad edge were the water depth dropped to 6 ft, then the vexlair started marking more fish. 3 hrs later we had 18 yellow perch and one more crappie flopping around on the ice, inside our warm new Otter Lodge Hub Shelter. And that made it well worth being out on the cold windy day. Good luck, and keep searching around you may find some nice ones. Cool

Had the Pleasure to make it back out on the ice this weekend, The back water Ice conditions are improving in the non current areas, I had 4" of hard clear ice. ICE is Still thin and UNSAFE in any and all of the current areas. I concentrated my efforts in the weed pockets in 4 to 5 feet of water. Fishing was slow but steady Marking fish on the Vexlair, many were just lookers but then bam one would suck it in. Fished 5 hrs, finished the day with 2 nice crappies, one super slab just over 15" (that made the day) 6 nice gills and one big ring perch, Best bait for me today was the ,50th oz VMC Wax Tail Jig (Bait Shack in Dubuque has them).Looking forward to the great Pan Fish Dinner. Good luck and stay safe in the non current, back waters.

Fished olearys sunday morning. 3 inches of ice. No snow cover made cleats a plus for getting off the ice. Red demon with 5 waxies caught a 16 in sauger and the biggest gill. 6 foot of water sawost action. Moved to deeper water and caught a 9 in crappie and lots of small perch. Pretty slow but could a scratch a few for a meal.

Got out on the ice Saturday morning at Bertom. Open water in the running slough where we normally cross to get to the big pond. Safe ice to the left toward the tracks so walked down the long pond and crossed into big pond. 2 guys fishong the south end so started there to find only 2 inches of ice. Pretty scary when you weigh 230lbs. We stayed away from each other and marked a few dish. Very slow and. Biting very light. We caught a few big gills but would end up with water pooling around your feet in a few minutes so decided to go to long pondand found 3 inches of ice and more fish. Lots of small fish but a few more.gills and one nice perch. Saw a few crappies caught on micks. I used waxworms on small mamamoskas to get more hook ups. Ended with a dozen gills.
