The bite is on in POOl 12! The catfish have been plentiful on stinkbait just about everywhere you go. I prefer the blood bait but cheese is good sometimes too. Look for a little bit of current in slough entrances and fish the front side or find some current around wood. The bass fishermen are catching large numbers of fish with dark colored spinnerbaits around wood with current. The northern are running over thirty inches and may keep your spinnerbait if your unlucky. Some bass both largemouth and smallmouth have moved out on the wingdams and are hitting crawdad crankbaits with a vengeance. The big bluegills have moved out on the wingdams also. A leech pulled on the inside edges or half a nightcrawler can net some 9 to 10 in. gills. Yummy! The Mississippi Walleye club is having it's annual Kids Day weigh in down at the softball diamonds by the Hockey Arena. McAleese Sports Complex Saturday at 11:30 am. We take 100 kids fishing out on the Mississippi river from 7 till noon. If you want to see some 10 to 15 pound sheephead don't miss the weigh in. There are tents set up and sno-cones and food to enjoy while you watch the kids show off there catch. Big Smile See ya on the water! J.D.

There was a boat up at the dam yesterday. The East Dubuque ramp is open and you can get to the dam from there. Be careful of floating ice. The Bait Shack in Dubuque will have any info you need. Cool

The water is open from the dam to the entrance of the Peosta Channel but it will stiull take a few days to open the ramp up at Hawthorne. Bellevue is an option and has been open for a couple of days. It might take another week for the Hawthorne ramp. Stay Tuned! Sad

Fishing in the backwaters has been good the last few weeks with the crappie bite getting better right up until ice up. Any piece of wood with water on it is holding fish. I prefer 1/16 ounce jigs under a bobber with a lip hooked minnow but plastics work well too. Don't pass up the chance to catch some of these 11-14 inch crappies. There are big bluegills that will take that minnow but waxworms will net you numbers. Catch ya on the water! Big Smile

A friend and I are thinking about checking out the Ice Harbor in Dubuque this weekend with the underwater cameras and vexilars to see what we can see while standing on the new docks. Stepping on the ice is going to have to wait a while longer.

The minno-mart #563-872-4874. I don't think they are open during the week now. There is a gas station that sells bait but I don't have that number yet.

I was sick through the whole Holiday and didn't get on the water last week. Buddies who went caught some nice sauger below the dam on #9 Rapalas. The used #11's down river on the wingdams with a few fish in the slot. Didn't seem to be a color preference but firetiger has been good. They were out Friday in the big wind. I still have minnows I bought last wed. for the crappies and if the backwaters aren't solid this weekend I hope to use them. I'll post Sat. night. Puke

Heading out over the long weekend. Chasing crappies with the wife tomorrow. I will post how it goes. Then out for walleyes on Sat. and Sun. with a buddy. The wingdams should still be good and the dam bite should be picking up. All the ramps in pool 12 are good with no worries at any for launching a boat. Still use caution entering back sloughs. The lower end of the Peosta channel is shallow and you need to hug the left side entering from down stream side.Hope you get on the water! Smile

The ramp at the dam in Bellvue is good but you have to hug the boat dock that is there. I mean within a foot. There is a rock pile that will keep you boat from floating if you get too far away from the dock. I'll caution you in this low water that we have right now that putting the boat back on the trailer at this ramp requires that you NOT run the boat up with the big motor at much more than idle speed. The Mississippi Walleye Club had a tournament out of that ramp and a few props got dinged getting them out. If you back in a little further than you normally do it won't be a problem. The walleye tournament in Bellvue 2 weeks ago saw some 18.5 in sauger that were caught below the dam with plenty of walleyes thrown in. The sauger bite can be really good below the dam and goes all winter. The majority of crappies they catch come from the back water lakes down river but the backwater up from the Sand Dunes,(Depot Dump), should have fish in them also. Good luck!

Hi- Can you recommend a good place to launch an 18' deep V? What do you know about pool 13; I used to fish it many years ago out of Bellevue. Thank you Smile
