I have spent the last 2 weeks fishing the Maquoketa River downstream from Monticello. I have been fishing rocky bluffs where the current pushes up against the bluff with big chunk rock under 3 to 5 feet of water . Purple hair jigs were the best and then 5 inch Kalin grubs in the bluegill color got fish also. I have ringworms in the same color that have caught fish too. ALL the walleyes have been the same size 16 inches and the smallie have come in all sizes. Lots of fun and nice walk in the afternoon have paid off with some fun. I look for it to improve as the water warms and maybe they will hit a crankbaits but no takers on the shad raps yet.
