Reel-Me-In Fishing Charters

The spring fishing has been pretty tough @ Raccoon Lake for the Striped Bass. Our largest this year was in April & it weighed 27lbs-9oz.The Striped Bass were done spawning on May10th this year and the Lake is in full swing for the summer. The crappie & bass are being caught on the shore line & the Striped Bass are back in deep water. We will be running fishing charters thru October for the Striped Bass. People ask me all the time, when is the best time to go after these Striped Bass. I simply tell everyone "The best time to go after the Striped Bass is when you have a chance. These fish have to eat everyday. So give us a call and put a Trophy Striped Bass on your wall from Indiana.

Well all, I have a report for the Raccoon Lake SRA. The water was very high. I was told that it was at about 24 or so feet high. That put the water level way into the trees. The beach was closed to swimmers since the parking lot for that was way under water. The camp ground and launch was fully functional. They had a boat shuttle service going on for the people with boats in the slips, or docks, or what ever they call them down there. Very friendly locals too. Anyway the fishing was great. I tore into the bluegills. They were in the trees near the shore. Bring plenty of tackle since the break offs were common. I guess a slip bobber would have been good to have in the tackle box. I did very well using my favorite worm, the leaf worm. I brought them from the home town of Chesterton, so I didn’t check if you could get them locally. I guess you should be able to get them locally though. I fished mostly in the east side of the reservoir since there were less boats there. Get there early though since the trailers were stalked all the way to the camping check in station, even on a Thursday. I tried for bass too and did OK. Not muck better than OK though. Well I gots to go now and plan out my next perch fishing day in Lake Michigan. I couldn’t go today since I didn’t feel like fighting the waves. They looked about 3 to four feet from the beach near my house. The looks of the lake always look different from the beach than the look from the water. I didn’t like the looks of the lake, so I stayed off today. May in the next day or two, it will get better. By the way, there was a sign at Raccoon saying that the July fireworks show is put off till August. You might want to phone ahead if that’s what you are going there for. Also, Hwy 41 is closed about 4 mile to the north all the way up to just before the Turkey Run turnoff. That might be helpful too. Have fun all and be safe. Keep all you fingers this weekend too.

Just back from Raccoon - spent two days burning up. Not the bass but the skin. Water temp. at surface averaging 88 degrees. Water level fine. Marked lots of fish but next to nothing hitting. As long as this heat continues only fishing with any chance will be dusk into night, and maybe 4am until 8am. Don't even know about that. Even channels uncooperative. Wonder if they are back on the nest and I just couldn't find the spots.? Would greatly appreciate feedback from someone who knows the lake well as to the best ways to find and fish for white bass there. Also some good places on the lake for channel cats. Thanks, and pray for cooler weather and water.

We were at Raccoon Lake memorial weekend. The lake was high. Walker Boat ramp and the ramp by the damn were closed. The fishing was not good. If any one has been down the since let me know. We are going in a couple of weeks again and want to see if the fishing improved.

hi, tush, i havent fish the slough in many years, and then i only fished it during open water. i usually fished many porter or laporte county lakes. that was a long time ago though. now i live a short way from milwaukee. the wisconsin fish board is very popular here many people i know are on it. just talked to a guy at fleet farm tonight who was looking at tip up lights and found out he too is on lake-link! i remember fishing back home(in indiana) and always catching more fish then when i would go to wisconsin or minnesota. now i have learned the lake around here and things are starting to get better, the lakes around here get pounded very hard! i do plan on fishing raccoon this next summer, i will bring down the boat and make a long weekend of it. good luck, dude.

fishindude, I'm from aways north of Lafayette. Can't tell you much about raccoon lake today. I did go to Willow Slough on Monday to check it out. There was about 4" of good ice. Several fisherman. I talked to one guy that said he had been catching a few gills. He said a little early that the fisherman just hadn't found them yet.

You say you lived in Wisconsin. What a state. I go through it often. I have a cabin in the U.P. Do you ever check out the fishing report for Wisconsin. Unreal huh? I don't know what the problem with the Indiana fisherman is. They seem like they don't want anyone to know there secret lake or how the fish are biting.Enough said. Good Luck. TUSH
