Well all, I have a report for the Raccoon Lake SRA. The water was very high. I was told that it was at about 24 or so feet high. That put the water level way into the trees. The beach was closed to swimmers since the parking lot for that was way under water. The camp ground and launch was fully functional. They had a boat shuttle service going on for the people with boats in the slips, or docks, or what ever they call them down there. Very friendly locals too. Anyway the fishing was great. I tore into the bluegills. They were in the trees near the shore. Bring plenty of tackle since the break offs were common. I guess a slip bobber would have been good to have in the tackle box. I did very well using my favorite worm, the leaf worm. I brought them from the home town of Chesterton, so I didn’t check if you could get them locally. I guess you should be able to get them locally though. I fished mostly in the east side of the reservoir since there were less boats there. Get there early though since the trailers were stalked all the way to the camping check in station, even on a Thursday. I tried for bass too and did OK. Not muck better than OK though. Well I gots to go now and plan out my next perch fishing day in Lake Michigan. I couldn’t go today since I didn’t feel like fighting the waves. They looked about 3 to four feet from the beach near my house. The looks of the lake always look different from the beach than the look from the water. I didn’t like the looks of the lake, so I stayed off today. May in the next day or two, it will get better. By the way, there was a sign at Raccoon saying that the July fireworks show is put off till August. You might want to phone ahead if that’s what you are going there for. Also, Hwy 41 is closed about 4 mile to the north all the way up to just before the Turkey Run turnoff. That might be helpful too. Have fun all and be safe. Keep all you fingers this weekend too.
